Rodney Dangerfield was absolutely one of the best.

"He said okay, you're ugly too."

Lots of good names on the list. I was sorry that Mel Brooks, Marty Feldman and Gene Wilder didn’t make anyone’s lists.

I think Hope was the greatest entertainer of the last century.

Vaudeville

Radio

Movies

TV

Live shows

Military trips

Sang and danced

Great at all of them.

Restricting this to actor/comedians, some of whom were “before my time”, but I’ve seen their work:

Dick Shawn (VERY underrated)
Dean Martin
Robin Williams
Bob Hope
Zero Mostel
Groucho Marx
Jack Benny
George Burns
Gracie Allen (The TV show was 30 years ahead of its time)
Curly

Any mention of Mel Brooks movies, has to include Kenneth Mars, he usually played bit characters, but they were usually the funniest characters.

Peter Falk and Alan Arkin in the original In-Laws

Peter Falk and Billy Crystal in Princess Bride

Peter Falk and Jack Lemmon in The Great Race

Now if I had to narrow it down to just one...

I know he’s not a big star or anything, but whenever I see Jon Lovitz I crack up. It takes me back to his Pathological Liar skits on SNL. He can always make me laugh.

Mel Brooks was kinda hilarious but not without help.

I would give the award to Lucille Ball. She created funny.
A very close second would go to Carol Burnett and her entire supporting cast.
