If Peruta is upheld, and all states become "Shall Issue", a lot of us are going to have to go shopping for a new concealed carry firearm with all the accessories.
I have not given a lot of thought about what I would buy, given the fact that I live in the State of New Jersey. I would be more likely to hit the Mega Millions than land a concealed carry permit under the NJ rules. So I am kind lost in the woods, here.
I thinking that something fairly small, but with decent accuracy that is not going to beat my hand to death when I practice with it. I don't see the point of owning a firearm that you would not be willing to put 100 rounds through every other week or so, otherwise you won't know what to do with it when the time comes.
I would not be averse to 380 Auto, but would not rule out a larger caliber.
What do our more experienced FRiends out there in the real world own?

My experience with the Kahr is that it’s a piece of crap! Returned mine. Never was able to run a full mag through it.

If you go the revolver route, I’d avoid Rossi. I bought a 6 shot, 3” in .357 mag a few years back. The timing on it was terrible and it (contrary to popular belief) can and will jam. I did not do my homework and later found they have this problem. Quality may have improved with the takeover by Taurus, but beware.
The .357 is clearly the bigger/more powerful round. I just find the kick a bit on the high side, which drives too tight a grip on the weapon and anticipation of the kick, which causes one (well, me) to jerk the trigger and throw the round high right & off target. Given that the first round on target usually wins the gunfight, I’ll stick with the P+ as the sweet spot for loads.
I agree entirely - that's why I said I generally have my .357 snubbie loaded with 38 +P rounds when I carry. But I like knowing I can shoot the .357 rounds If I had to. (ie. If .357 was the only ammo I had available.)
You can overcome the Ruger trigger with a lot of practice, but my wife has the Shield, and I have to say it it one sweet little gun. Since I already have the LC9 and have learned how to hit despite the looooooooonnnnngggg trigger pull, I can’t justify buying another gun, but I can’t help feeling a little envy when I fire her gun.
I tried talking her into a little revolver, but she loves her Shield.
I have mixed feelings about it. I know that the NIS is probably keeping a list but I had to show ID, give my SSN and wait while they called the Feds so the internet thing is probably a wash.
I've shot most of the common small carry weapons and I like the M&P shield the best but I don't own one. I don't feel like getting pistol permits and dealing with that crap again for a gun I can't carry in my own state.
I do have my SW638 for when I'm in a carry jurisdiction and I also have no real issue concealing my HK P30 since I'm not a little guy. If I could carry daily I would get the Shield.
I’m not sold on the reliability of revolvers, they don’t stove pipe but I’ve had more rounds down range with fewer problems using a pistol than a revolver.
I’ve only had one pistol become unfirable at the range in 30 years. I’ve had at least a half a dozen instances of revolvers becoming unable to fire the next round without application of tools and in one case a torch.
Private sales between 2 people are okay in my state-—and there are no records kept except between the buyer and the seller.
I have a concealed carry permit, I have a gun purchased for concealed carry, I don’t expect any confidentiality.
On the other hand, if I had ever purchased a gun through a private sale, I wouldn’t mention it here. On that we agree.

I used to love my XDm .40, before my boating accident, that is but it was a bit too big to carry so I would consider the compact version. My old mags would have fit too, if I still had any of them ;-) Once my budget loosens up there might be a rig in my future.

When planning on where to live, gun laws were considered. There were multiple states crossed off my list.
Makes perfect sense. My wife does exactly the same with our .357. I mistakenly thought you meant that you use .357 as combat load in a .38 (like I do with P+ rounds)accepting that it would degrade the life of the revolver, but would be okay in the emergency situation when you had to engage a live target.
