Hello, everyone. I'm new to Free Republic and I'm looking forward to the discussions.
There has been a good amount of coverage regarding Brittany Maynard's assisted suicide, and even more opinions thrown all over news websites and social media. After reading through a number of responses, I still didn't find the argument for the opposition of assisted suicide very clear. I understand that most Christians would be opposed to the act purely for religious reasons, but do those who oppose assisted suicide have any valid reasons without appealing to religious doctrine?
He may not understand that FR is not run by College kids!

The only way to protect all of us from Involuntary Suicide is to prohibit ALL suicide. Just as the only way to protect people from Involuntary Sterilization and Involuntary Abortion is to prohibit ALL sterilization and abortion.
The moment you allow suicide, sterilization, and abortion, you have admitted that sterilization, suicide, and abortion are reasonable choices.
INSTANTLY, the question arises: What can we do about people who REFUSE to do what is clearly REASONABLE?
The answer is ALWAYS: Force them.
People are always eager to categorize objections to an evil social policy as “religious.” That way, they can pretend it isn’t a matter of JUSTICE, but a matter of “can’t eat pork” or “can’t eat meat on Friday.”

Hm, according to MeshugeMikey if you assist in a suicide it makes you a murderer, and Politicalkiddo correctly and concisely says killing yourself is suicide. So then, let's take a look at Samson who is commended as a Hero in the book of Hebrews:
(Judges 16:23-31)Now we obviously see that Samson's act of revenge was also a suicide, moreover we see God honoring his request for strength and thereby assisting in the suicide.
Now the lords of the Philistines gathered to offer a great sacrifice to their god Dagon, and to rejoice; for they said, “Our god has given Samson our enemy into our hand.” When the people saw him, they praised their god; for they said, “Our god has given our enemy into our hand, the ravager of our country, who has killed many of us.” And when their hearts were merry, they said, “Call Samson, and let him entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he performed for them. So, obviously there's more to it than the simple definitions and assertions indicate.
