Since the 1980s theres been a call for a female Doctor whenever the part is recast. I would have no problem with that, but woe betide the showrunner who makes that decision. By way of compensation, Steven Moffat delivers the next best thing. Hes had the balls to reassign the gender of the Master.
Surely, this puts paid to any whingers who, for reasons that escape me, have labelled Moffat a misogynistic writer. Hes been creating strong women characters ever since Nancy, the 1940s single mum in The Empty Child (2005). Now, surely, hes outed himself as a feminist and a transgender supporter. Whatever would Roger Delgado, the first and finest Master, who died 41 years ago, make of all this? I like to think hed approve.

In Night of the Doctor last year, the Sisterhood of Karn offered the Eight Doctor a series of potions, one choice was man or woman. So, yes it is possible. He chose Warrior by the way, and regenerated into John Hurt’s War Doctor.
wasn’t Torchwood, the show, based in the current time or near future?
Yes. Captain Jack got stranded in the present time when Jack's time vortex manipulator got damaged after an adventure with Doctor Who
That explains everything, lol
That was announced a while back, wasn't it?
<cough>Romana<cough>
Humanoid, but not human. It's established "canon" that they are amongst the oldest and most powerful races in the galaxy. They appear human, but have two hearts, a respiratory bypass that allows them to survive extended periods without air, the ability to heal near-fatal injuries by regenerating, and telepathy. It's implied that they have some sense that enables them to perceive time differently from humans. The Time Lords were originally stellar engineers, who captured a black hole and placed it under their capital on their home planet. It was this near-infinite power source that originally made their time-travel possible. (In the new series, the planet Gallifrey has been destroyed or imprisoned due to a war with the Daleks, and apparently the Doctor now has to refuel his TARDIS by collecting energy from space-time rifts.)
People are still debating that on the interwebs
lol
Romana!
Was I the only one who, for a brief moment, thought that Missy was going to turn out to actually be Romana-turned-evil? The mention of being traditional and using the term ‘Time Lady’ just as Romana did, and even the use of the name ‘Mistress’ which K9 always used to describe Romana, had me fooled for a second.
I just hope this version of The Master is a more controlled, calculating version. I’m sure I am in the minority but I never really liked the John Simm version. I’m more the old school, Roger Delgado, fan.
