Since the 1980s there’s been a call for a female Doctor whenever the part is recast. I would have no problem with that, but woe betide the showrunner who makes that decision. By way of compensation, Steven Moffat delivers the next best thing. He’s had the balls to reassign the gender of the Master.

Surely, this puts paid to any whingers who, for reasons that escape me, have labelled Moffat a misogynistic writer. He’s been creating strong women characters ever since Nancy, the 1940s single mum in The Empty Child (2005). Now, surely, he’s outed himself as a feminist and a transgender supporter. Whatever would Roger Delgado, the first and finest Master, who died 41 years ago, make of all this? I like to think he’d approve.

It has been clear for a long in the WHO Universe that there are female Time Lords (Time Ladies?) and that when regeneration happens a male time lord could become female.

They have several times had an alien lesbian character and her human lover on the show. I’m not sure why there is a fuss now.

To increase interest (ratings, ad rates) for the show?

Certainly unlikely to happen soon. Capaldi is new and likely to stay for a while.

Clara is certainly different from other companions in the way she’s been spread through time.

As far as female time lords are concerned, the first doctor was dragging his granddaughter around with him and there are clearly females on Galefrey. River Song had some time energy due to being conceived on the TARDIS.

From whom?

Who really assigns the gender?

The DNA?

The gov't?

The hormones?

Something/Body else?

The Democrats?

i want my Doctor Who to be a sci-fi story.. not a propaganda vehicle

want to kill the series? keep using it to spread the left’s sexual agenda.

it’ll be as dead as deadwood in no time

The Master being a woman makes sense, because he will take any circumstance/situation to carry out his diabolical plans.

However, if they do turn Dr. Who into a woman down the road, I may have to give this show the heave-ho.

There was a subtle hint a few years ago that the Master might become a woman, when the John Simms Master died and was cremated, and a woman picks up his ring from the pyre. In "classic" Doctor Who he also had the ability to steal someone else's body. No reason he shouldn't steal a woman's.

Switching sexes is a classic supervillain ploy. In the Superman comics of the 1940s, the Ultra-Humanite transferred his mind into the body of a woman.

On top of all that, this was just a really good episode. There was one point where the Doctor remarks that there was something very obvious that he was missing. We're then shown the obvious. It was a head-slapper moment, because I'd been staring right at it, too, and never spotted it.

Clara is certainly different from other companions in the way

First Companion to actually threaten the Doctor

The Doctor: She'll be fine.

Clara:Speak for me again, and I'll detach something from you.
< long beat> I'll be fine.

Definitely a new dynamic ever since Clara came on board. Even the Matt Smith Dr was suspicious of her because she was the impossible girl who kept turning up through history.

In last nights episode Missy did mention the fact that there had been time ladies but I think she’s an incarnation of the master.

Yes, River Song being conceived from two human parents while in the TARDIS, resulted in a child with Time Lord regeneration abilities.

In the series, time-travel was discovered by humans in the 54th Century, and you see a bunch of them time traveling in the series (notably including "Captain Jack Harkness" of Torchwood).

Which brings in an interesting possibility: are the "Time Lords" really a different species who just happen to look human, or are they the descendents of human time travelers who traveled into the distant past and settled on Gallifrey?

The people of Gallifrey have 2 hearts

and yes there are female Time Lords. A previous Doctor mentioned one that became female in one of his “lives”

She did say she was the Master, now Mistress... Missy is short for Mistress

“Torchwood” was a horrible show IMO

John Simm was good as The Master. He’s starring on “Intruders” now.

The little girl on that show is inhabited with the soul of a male serial killer.
