The Days Inn Penn State had an unexpected late check-in early Friday morning. A deer found its way into the downtown State College hotel by entering through the automatic doors by the lobby off South Pugh Street, police said. According to State College police, at about 3:45 a.m., the deer entered the building and became trapped in the bathroom hallway of the adjoining Mad Mex restaurant. Surveillance video showed the deer sprinting past the check-in counter as an employee watched. Pennsylvania Game Commission officers were called to handle the animal, police said. After attempting to tranquilize the deer but failing, officers were forced to dispatch the deer. No damage to the properties was reported, police said.

Video at linked source. For those unfamiliar with State College, this Days Inn is pretty much downtown - a block from campus. Certainly not out in the sticks. They "dispatched" the deer? Sounds like venison stew at Mad Mex tonight.

Deer was probably spooked by the rates and the 2 night minimum (football weekend). My guess would be close to $1K for the weekend - for a Days Inn.

Not sure. It’s a video of a deer running through a hotel. Should it be a kitten?

Should it be a kitten? Did Sandusky shag kittens too? While Paterno grinned and signed checks?

Deer seem all cute, cuddly, and Bambi like, to those of us who don’t have to live with them. My friends in the Northeast, who put up with Lyme disease, garden pillaging, and car wrecks from the wayward herd jumping into the road, not so much. Time to cull, I say ! Thanks.

Thanks for posting this. My husband and I enjoyed it. Days Inn is in the middle of town (State College) so it’s odd seeing a deer.

They sent archers out to cull the heard, but as usual they can't keep up with the fecundity. We will be sending out about 1.5 million sub-contractors for the DER to start cleaning things up in a major way shortly.
Yes, they manage the herd to be WAY too large. Have charged over $25,000 to State Farm automobile insurance over the 30 years I've lived in Central PA, and could not shoot them fast enough to save the sweet corn from major losses on the farm some years.
