Vandals attacked a giant green inflatable sculpture in one of the most famous squares in Paris in the early hours of Saturday after its resemblance to a sex toy sparked an outcry.
The 24-meter-high canvas artwork by U.S. artist Paul McCarthy was unveiled on Thursday in Place Vendome, famous for its luxury jewellery stores and the Ritz Hotel.
"An unidentified group of people cut the cables which were holding the artwork, which caused it to collapse," police told Reuters. "The person responsible for the piece then decided to deflate it to avoid it being more seriously damaged."
The deflated sculpture was being removed from the square on Saturday afternoon.
McCarthy told French newspaper Le Monde that his work "Tree" was inspired both by a sex toy called a butt plug and a Christmas tree.

Everything is somebody's fetish.
S’what when you let a homo display his narcissistic, infantile “art.”
Ditto and ditto!
Inspired! By something painfully (I assume, by reflection) shoved into the anus. We seem to live in a time of great technology and horrible "art" - perhaps the two are anathema.
It looks just like a tree to me, but then again, I guess it’s all where your mind is.
Projection is an interesting thing.
That said, it is an atrocity and calling it *art* is using a VERY loose definition of the word and an insult to true artists everywhere.
Specifically it is an object worshipped by the homo community.
It is called a ‘butt plug’.
Living in New York and dealing with some random vocal types has been truly educational.
SOoooo, the “artiste” has made a giant inflatable icon of his object of desire, thus telling the whole world he is a flamer.
Looks more a giant lego than a se toy IMHO

You summed that up much better than I...: )
Lol, thanks!
I imagine he was very upset that someone critiqued his “work”.
1. http://youtu.be/5akEgsZSfhg
2. I’m kind of disappointed it collapsed when they cut the cables. I had this mental image of it flying over the Paris skyline like “The Red Balloon”.
3. But seriously, folks, that thing looks like Macy’s started working with the Pride Parade.
4. Richard Gere wants one of those for when he runs out of gerbils.
I’m sorry for the young children who will see this and, wanting to learn more about the ‘artist,’ will look him up on the internet and find out what his true intentions and meanings are.
Intentionally scarring the psyche of decent people and destroying innocence of children at an extremely young age with disgusting themes and content has been a recurring theme from many militant homosexuals. It’s unfortunate that Paris’ Mayor and other elected officials are giving this lunatic a public platform and funding to pursue his vile mental illness in a way that can harm others so easily, and in ways that they’ll never recover from.
This is not art and it provides no benefit to Society.
Obama only gives a rat’s a$$ about those who defame the prophet of Islam.
The man probably walks with a buttplug in place while he stands at the podium.
But offensive youtube videos (no, not the beheading videos) MUST COME DOWN.
Same with comic panels.
