LOL
She was always such a good girl...
But my public school friends would talk about some of their teachers getting rough with miscreants. This was back in the sixties. In those days neither the public nor private schools tolerated crap from students. Times change.
In my time, teachers at Carver, Douglas and Dunbar H.Schools took their lives into their hands. I think that it is about time that a teacher fought back. Will earn them some badly needed respect.
After a City-Douglas or City-Dunbar football game, we City students left double-time from the stadium to avoid being picked off by D/D fans. It was not a pleasant feeling to know that you were being hunted.
I remember a similar incident in our school 50 years ago. Some students believe it is their purpose in life to drive teachers over the edge.
Male teacher, male student. The teacher was asked to resign or get fired.
While I am in favor of arming SOME teachers I worry about such things as this.
I also saw an elderly woman teacher take on a large male student for him being a jerk in class.
If you care too much you are going to lose your temper in these “urban” schools. Just do what you can, go home on time, enjoy your vacations and pension. The system is broken and there is nothing you as a teacher can do about it.
If a student refuses to put away their cell phone there is nothing you can do. Admin will send them back, their parents don’t care, and if you grab it from them you open up the chance of a physical altercation. You can knock off their test grade, maybe, unless behavior grading is banned at the school.
An aspiring rappess.
Don’t care so much, or you are setting yourself up for trouble. If they can’t take advantage of their FREE education it’s their and their family’s fault.
When it’s a black kid pounding on a white guy, that’s “just a whoop ass”.
In our school, the men teachers took the problems guys out in the hall. The women would go get a shop teacher. There were a few boys bounced off lockers. Never saw it, but we heard it. That said, school was safe for us and we knew it.
Oh my. I am just rolling here. Wow.
Would have both female student AND male student who intervened caned. Would warn parents to shut up and not say another word or would have them caned too if they came out saying anymore about it. Not negotiable.
I hope the teacher beat her good.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Oh, I know. It’s just that there are plenty of really nice kids getting put into classrooms with little savages. They get no attention because the Feral Ones demand it all or they’ll start destroying things. It’s really depressing.
How true. All of my male teachers back in the early '60s were WWII combat vets and our principal fought at Iwo Jima so they took no crap from the students. I saw a number of "tough guy" students slammed against the wall by teachers.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
When I was 10, the principal came to my classroom and paddled a boy.
Never forgot that.
I was an obnoxiously well-heaved student, possibly because I *knew* if I got in trouble at school, what was waiting at home would be so much worse.
I’m still an obnoxiously well behaved/law abiding adult.
Go figure.
:)
I still remember when I was in the eighth grade seeing one of the nuns slamming a sixth-grader against the school wall just outside the main entrance. She was saying things to him as she was doing it (that I couldn't hear), and the kid had a look of sheer terror on his face. I still remember the kid's name. I had a sister who was in this kid's class, and she said he deserved everything he got from the nun.
That’s a great visual. I wonder if he straightened up after that.
Keep in mind the teacher is liable for the safety of other students, and has to respond immediately to threats.
