I went to Catholic schools 1-12, so there was absolutely no tolerance for students acting up. I distinctly remember the principal hitting a troublemaker in front of the assembled senior class one time. Nothing happened to the principal.

But my public school friends would talk about some of their teachers getting rough with miscreants. This was back in the sixties. In those days neither the public nor private schools tolerated crap from students. Times change.

How true. All of my male teachers back in the early '60s were WWII combat vets and our principal fought at Iwo Jima so they took no crap from the students. I saw a number of "tough guy" students slammed against the wall by teachers.

When I was 10, the principal came to my classroom and paddled a boy.

Never forgot that.

I was an obnoxiously well-heaved student, possibly because I *knew* if I got in trouble at school, what was waiting at home would be so much worse.

I’m still an obnoxiously well behaved/law abiding adult.

Go figure.

:)
