10 Good Movies Ruined By Bad Endings
Screen Rant ^ | August 7, 2014 | Andrew Dyce

Whether writing a movie, TV series, novel, or any other form of storytelling, one fact rises above all: endings are hard. The sentiment is proven on a yearly basis, as countless films deliver an intriguing premise, compelling action, or powerful messages, only to fumble with the closing act. Sometimes, the film’s final impact can be so poorly executed, it leaves audiences wondering whether the film that preceded it was even worth the trouble.

The ending of 2001 is perfect.

I hated how Apollo 13 ended

But Leo might not be dead!!! (You know those Hollywood fruit cake creators are!) I can see it now.....’TITANIC 2! Leo, frozen stiff in an underwater iceberg as he sunk in 1912, thaws out and floats to the surface where he is picked up by Capt. Crane, Admiral Nelson and the SEAVIEW, (while it was searching for that missing Malaysia jet of course!). Leo then falls in love with one of the SEAVIEW sub’s torpedos, marries it and they have kids! What a plot!!!

The Mist. Loved the rest of it (except for the mischaracterization of Christians at the grocery store), but I hated that ending soooo much.

Yeah, definitely agree with Close Encounters. Landing scene was too drawn out, would have liked to have found out what happened onboard the spaceship. Also, they never really explained why they made contact with us / "kidnapped" humans.

Castaway had the worst ending. Nothing could be worse.

That might have taken another movie, even though it was a few of the last chapters of the book. Expand to four movies by ending number three at the big wedding scene at Minas Tirith, maybe? Leave Saruman and Wormtongue alive at Orthanc and let it play out by meeting them on the road to Bree and all that?

(I don’t think Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull was available to play Tom Bombadil. He’s the only person so far that I can envision pulling off the blue jacket and yellow boots, never mind all the reality-altering singing.)

7. The Devil’s Advocate (1997)

Have to disagree with this one. The movie was not so hot but the ending was good.

I have to add "Country Strong" to the list. Not that it was a good movie The second half of the movie and the ending did not fit with the first half.

There was a wonderful movie called America. Unfortunately it ended horribly when a horrific Obola virus destroyed its economy and flooded the land with filthy deranged drunk drivers from Acapulco.

How about. a movie with a GREAT ending...The Shawshank Redemption.

It’s being called more and more, as time passes, ‘the perfect movie’

I hate GWTW’s ending, too. It’s so frustrating how Scarlett and Rhett are at cross-purposes through the whole thing, then the ending is the biggest frustration of all.

Godfather 3 with Pacino falling off the chair! Turned the whole movie into a comedy! Most ridiculous thing I ever saw!

I hate the way Gone With the Wind ends. I’m probably the only person in the world who hates the ending. :-)

Yeah, well then you hate how the book ends. Because it's exact.

Totally agree. The ending of Contact was just stupidly obnoxious. And I disagree with the list's inclusion of Devil's Advocate. I frankly thought that the ending was the best part of a pretty terrible film.
