Thinking of Moving to Boulder...
My fevered brain | Madmominct

Posted on 09/25/2014 2:36:54 PM PDT by madmominct

I know it may be insane, but I'm thinking of moving to Colorado, Boulder specifically. Do any of you live there and do you think it's possible for a 62-year-old single female Conservative to live happily there? My reasons are that I hear it's beautiful, closer to my family in Los Angeles (but I don't want to live in Calif), has seasons and is a place I haven't lived before. I want to start over in a new place. Unfortunately it's a nest of libs, but where isn't? Just wondering - SOMEONE out there in Freeperland must live there! Thanks in advance for your thoughts and info.

No place to go if you are conservative. Boulder is far left. Nice place for rich lefties though.

There ain’t much of a nightlife here. But as a single woman, you never have to fear being raped, held up at gunpoint or murdered. And local folks will give you their back shirt if you need help.

Don’t remember much about Salida but we spent the night in a cabin south of there in Alamosa. Middle of the night there were burros walking and braying down the road. Were on our way to a centennial ranch outside of Creede. Beautiful country. Fished the head waters of the Rio Grande.

Finding a job will be much easier on the Front Range-the eastern part of the state north and south of Denver.

Western Colo. is great but the jobs are limited, especially in your field. Again, best wishes and good luck.

Yup. There are national forests around here. Recreational opportunities are unrivaled as well as quality of life. The “banana belt” has the mildest winters in all of Colorado.

Colorado is a beautiful place and I think you would be happy there. You will just get annoyed with some of your democrat neighbors and colleagues from time to time if you talk politics with them, but even in a red state you will meet democrats, so that is very foolish reason not to live in a state you would enjoy living in. But for heaven’s sake take a good look at a map; Colorado is not at all close to LA. You have about day’s drive through Colorado/Utah, maybe more depending where in Colorado you live; then about 1-1/2 days driving through Nevada (we are a very big state) and then another 8 hours or so to LA. The time to fly from the east coast is 1-3 hours than flying out of Denver, but difference in airfare won’t be much. If you want to be relatively close to your family in LA but don’t want to live in California (I don’t blame you) then you should move to western Arizona or southern Nevada.

Very mild at times. Son takes family to Shelf Road north of Canon City to climb in the winter. Wall faces south and is quite warm.

If OP hates snow, then towns east of the Front Range are worth investigating.

Snow in the mountain towns seldom lasts more than two to three days on account of the altitude and the sunshine.

Try Longmont, it’s about 10 miles North of Boulder. You’ll like it a lot better.

If you want seasons and to be closer to California, try Flagstaff or Prescott in Northern Arizona.

BTW, are you still doing medical transcription?

You’re right about the time to fly. But I don’t think I could live in AZ or Nevada - I need greenery and cooler temps at least part of the year. As far as the libs, most of my friends are libs and we just don’t talk politics. We seem to get along as long as they’re not as rapid libs as I am conservative. I manage to live in CT, which is about as blue as they get.

Yes, still doing med transcription for now until I finish my degree in March. I went back to school online at 55 and am now 62 and almost done! I finally figured out what I want to do and seem to be a natural counselor (or so I’m told). So I’m hoping I can find something where I can accumulate hours toward a license.

Boulder’s a cesspool, but there are a few good things there.
I took my concealed carry with a guy who open carries in Boulder. He said he doesn’t get that much grief over it.

That being said, IF you do...

PLEASE work to try and change things there.
We Coloradans could use more warriors for this fight.

Son owned a home in Colorado Springs. Snowfall usually was powdery and sublimation would clear it fairly quickly.

Don’t do it. If nothing else you will regret the excessive taxes you pay to fund LIB idiocy. Further, you would have to learn to shut up and be PC or you’ll be shunned and harassed by the LIB idiots. Live in a conservative area. Buy a video of Boulder.
