In December 1980, there were reports of phenomena in Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk near a United States Air Force base.
The Forestry Commission has created a metal interpretation of a UFO to add to its trail which commemorates the alleged sightings.
The commission said the sculpture was "impartial" and did not seek to answer the mystery.

The Forestry Commission opened a UFO Trail in 2005 and placed three logs in a clearing where witnesses claimed a craft had landed and disappeared.
The new UFO will be placed in the same clearing.

Something very strange seems to happen there but deciding it was aliens and erecting a monument is strange.

I think that brilliant piece of marketing deserves to be memorialized somewhere with the marketing genius creator's name on it...wow.
Insofar as the 'ufo sculpture' goes, 'tis a shame Brits have lost their capitalist instincts; it should be painted RED, have lights visible from passing aircraft and a nearby caravan peddling foodstuffs, paperweights and flying model UAVs...
Sometimes it is the de-bunking attempt which is the bunk.

I suspect it will be there for a while — question is how long before it gets tagged.
Not that I ever believed the ET stuff, figuring it combination of misidentification, hangovers (it was the holidays), weather, and a lighthouse.
