U.S. Soccer is standing by its decision to allow goalkeeper Hope Solo to continue to play while she faces domestic violence charges.
Solo is charged with two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault in Washington state stemming from a June 21 altercation with her sister-in-law and 17-year-old nephew at a family gathering.
...
U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati said Monday the organization will let her play until the legal matter is settled.
...
According to the court documents in the abuse case, Solo's 17-year-old nephew told police Solo was upset and appeared to have been drinking when she arrived at a family gathering. Following an argument, she and her nephew got into a fistfight, according to court documents.
When the boy's mother tried to break up the confrontation, Solo punched her in the face, the documents said. The report also said that the nephew broke a broom over Solo's head and pointed a broken BB gun at her to try to get her to leave.
...
Solo married former Seattle Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens in 2012. He was arrested just before their wedding for investigation of assault after a disturbance involving Solo, but he was not charged. Maybrown also represented Stevens in that case.

Different standards for different folks.
So because Hope Solo is a girl, she will be treated differently. There is no rush to judgement in her case.
This is a troubling aspect of the NFL rush to judgement in recent domestic violence cases. These players are not being allowed the due process of seeing their cases go through the legal system, before the NFL starts banning players from playing.
It is because she is a she, so beating people is ok. Otherwise the cry would be sexism.
I was surprised to read that she married a man.
One would think sports organizations would have a morals clause in their contracts. Break it and you’re out.
I’ve been told her big thing at the Olympics was to sleep with as many foreign Olympians as possible in the two weeks or however long it is the Olympic village was open.
One would hope she remains solo.
If you mean unmarried, too late: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1FLDB_enUS531US531&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=hope%20solo%20husband
I’m kinda with you on the due process part but lose you on the “moral equivalency”component of the argument.
Meaning, Ray Rice doing a round house left hook on his 100 lb (or thereabouts) wife that could have easily killed her is, at least in my mind, a major felonious attack.
Solo and her sister and her nephew getting in a ruckus at her sisters house, with everyone being essentially the same in the physical strength dept, and no significant injuries, to me is small change compared to what Rice did.
So, back to “due process”, Solo does not have 10-20 million bucks to hire lawyers to stretch “due process” out to the “un recognizable” . Ray Rice does. So, to me, the NFL, trying to rescue its well deserved tattered reputation, is within it’s rights to try and keep this felon in waiting off the field on Sunday afternoon national television.
I would let penniless Solo (by comparison to Mr Rice) play and I would suspend Rice, which, I guess, is a long round about way of saying I agree with what currently is going on in both cases.
It’s soccer. Nobody cares. Would they even know if they were being boycotted?
I appreciate what you are saying, and see merit in your statements.
I was coming at it from the standpoint of people saying that we need to have “zero tolerance” for certain things, and the fact that domestic violence has now become the issue of the day in the “zero tolerance” area.
And was thinking that “zero tolerance” should apply to all who are in a domestic violence situation, if we are to be intellectually honest in applying such a standard.
I guess I take issue with the whole “zero tolerance” standard, and really think we should judge these on a case by case basis.
Her leaked selfie photos sort of back up that assertion. Just sayin’...
Good point. Women’s soccer does not have the bottomless reservoirs of money that the NFL has, waiting to be extorted and tapped by Liberals.
If her hands weren’t kept idle by the requirements of her profession, she wouldn’t be swinging an object with them or using her fists to cause mayhem .......
