So the Adrian Peterson story has brought "child abuse" into the limelight. Child abuse is horrible. Reprehensible. But do you REALLY consider mere spanking to be "child abuse"? Watch the video and comment below.

Also, my dad spanked me.

Spanking is not child abuse, but spanking should be carefully regulated.

A couple of swats can be very useful. More than that may well make things worse, or at best do no good. There is no justifiable disciplinary reason to hit hard enough to leave marks.

What Adrian Peterson did is NOT spanking....it is indeed child abuse. Just because a switch was used on him doesn’t make it anything less. Being beaten with belts and spoons and switches, leaving welts and scars ALL over the body of a FOUR year old is beyond ‘spanking’

Do you break the skin and leave you child with bloody wounds which will leave scars when you spank?

Why would I ever do that?

Because that is what is being discussed.

I used to get spanked with a switch. Sure it left some marks and bruises occassionally but I got more damage from playing football and falling off my bike just the same. All the switch did was make me not want to do whatever I was punished for again. Sorry you just can’t reason with a child like you can with an adult. Getting a spanking is nowhere near abuse. In facts to correct your behavior so you want do the same stupid crap again. Child abuse is when the aggressor intentionally causes harm out of loss of self control, for sexual gratification or other non-healthy types of behaviors that are not in the best interests of the child.

I spanked both of my kids when they were growing up. One male and one female...

I have the best kids (and grand kids), BTW, in the world. Both are with their original spouses, one is a senior VP of a corporation and and the other is the CEO of his own Corp.

It seemed to work out pretty good. For all of us...

Regulated? By who? Nanny Pelosi?

Is it anecdotal?

Yes, but it sounds like you have a great family, so who cares? :)

Nope. It isn’t. And when done properly once or twice (ie FOLLOW THROUGH WHEN YOU SAY YOU WILL DO IT) the mere mention of it is enough for most kids to get in line.

My parents spanked me less than the fingers on one hand. They didn’t have to. If they said stop or else, I knew they would. So they didn’t have to.

This is why spanking works. My parents didn’t want to spank me. They were much happier the threat of being spanked worked.

Exactly. As opposed to the approach the elites want the sheeple to take today, which is allow everything and do nothing, turning the sheeple’s kids into nutcases, drug addicts, criminals, etc.

Years later, the kids frequently turn on their elderly parents and beat and rob them or generally take from them and give them enormous headaches. Many of us see this firsthand, children becoming criminals and wastecases.

Proverbs 13:24 “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.”

I am an old timer going back to the great depression days. I do recall several spankings I got from my mother. Looking and thinking back to those times I would say that I deserved each spanking. In particular I learned and carried to my late years the facts that in life there are taboos and behavior to be honored. I tend to believe that many misbehaved boys that went to fight in WWII and some like my brother who was killed on Okinawa had felt the paddle or switch. My two sons have felt the paddle or belt a few times and have come away as loving and caring men. I have to admit that times have changed with so many societal gurus preaching ‘let the child run wild because they will get beyond such behavior’ and we will be making a lot of money in the meantime. Paddling and spanking of course needs to be done with loving intentions. I had a very loving mother and my sons know/knew I loved them by so many other shared activities.

If you saw the Peterson child’s pictures, you know that what he did was child abuse. Drawing blood is child abuse.

Yes Word of God was our guide also. Was I beat,No, did I beat mine No, but we all learned respect when we were told to not do something. Great lessons in life are learned that way. We would have a lot less disrespect, and tons of other stuff going on, if more would follow it.

Spanking isn’t child abuse. Child abuse is the attempt to actually hurt the child like A.P. clearly did.
