Enterovirus D68 sickens more than a dozen in New York

(CNN) -- More than a dozen cases of Enterovirus D68 have been confirmed in New York state, according to officials. "EV-D68 is causing cases of severe respiratory illness ... sometimes resulting in hospitalization, especially among children with asthma," the NYS Department of Health said in a statement Friday. Enteroviruses are quite common in September; the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates 10 to 15 million people are infected by these viruses each year. But doctors believe this particular type of enterovirus, Enterovirus D68, is causing more serious problems than others have in years past. As of September 11, more than 80 cases in six other states -- Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky and Missouri -- have been confirmed to be EV-D68, according to the CDC.

Not at the moment. I understand the concern. Just would like to see some evidence, rather than assumptions passed off as fact.
I work in a field that has some relation to infection control. It’s a pretty well known fact that the resurgence of various diseases in this country, notably tuberculosis, is largely related to increased immigration from countries where these diseases are still endemic.
It’s also well known that you’d better not bring the issue up, except perhaps in a rigorously documented paper, or you’ll be accused of hate speech, etc.
However, I’ve also seen claims that the resurgence of bedbugs is related to immigration, and that probably isn’t true. It’s caused by banning of the most effective pesticides and the bugs growing resistance to the ones still permitted.
IOW, immigration is a cause, not always the main one, in some health issues and not in others. We ought to try to use evidence to determine which applies in a given case.

Hard to tell the source - timing of school opening and sudden spate can be taken as "bunch of kids get together and spread virus" or "bunch of kids get mixed with illegals and spread virus".
I'm more prone to believe that the illegals are the likely source.

Which is so densely populated that it will be a near pandemic for the state in just 1 city alone. We are hearing of spotty reports all over the US. E. TN has it. Memphis, TN got hit by new born meningitis. And the hospitals are not public ones. Memphis only has 1 public hospital.
Can nobody have a different opinion from you without being in the pay of nefarious forces?

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

We have had multiple cases in Colorado. Ppl get sick quickly but recover quickly it’s going to be a challenge if it overlaps with flu season

Agreed. Jumping to conclusions and getting hysterical, absent hard evidence is never a good idea.
While this particular strain EV-D68 is rather rare, enteroviruses are quite common and usually peak in August and September and there are hundreds of different strains of non-polio enteroviruses, some causing little or no symptoms or symptoms much like the common cold (a rhinovirus) and others causing Hand Foot and Mouth disease, some causing more serious illnesses such as non-polio but polio-like paralysis, acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis or even viral meningitis.
But in fact if you or your child ever had a mild summer or early fall “head cold”; a mild cold and more of a nuisance than a serious illness, most likely it was not a rhinovirus but an enterovirus that caused it. In fact this family of non-polio enteroviruses in general, are so common and many often do not cause any serious illness that is it hard to tell how many cases there are every year as many times it does not require anything but home care and chicken soup, such as you would for the common cold and not necessitating even a trip to the doctor’s live alone to the ER, so it isn’t widely tested for or reported to the CDC.
The interesting thing about this outbreak of EV-D68 (and there have been smaller and less severe outbreaks in the US in the past) is number of children getting sick, how fast it is spreading, how rapidly those children who do become very ill go from just cold symptoms to wheezing and not being able to breathe, and that it is making some children, especially those with asthma require hospitalization for breathing problems.
The good news is there have been no deaths reported (at least so far) and those children who did require hospitalization and breathing treatments (nebulizers), again mostly among those children who have asthma or a history of wheezing and breathing problems (allergies?) have been recovering quickly and sent home after a brief hospital stay and without further complications. A more interesting question might be why so many kids in the US now days have asthma.
The thing about this family of non-polio enteroviruses (an RNA virus) is their propensity for rapid mutation.
So while I would not discount that this outbreak of EV-D68 “might” be attributed to the recent influx of illegal alien children (and young adults), the fact that this particular virus has been present in the US, first identified in the early 60’s in California, it is also possible that this is just a mutation of a virus already present in the US population that in the past caused only mild illnesses in smaller outbreaks over the last 40 years but it has now mutated into something a bit more serious – with or possibly without it being introduced as some sort of novel disease brought to the US by illegals from south of the border.
We could close off and seal our borders off completely, to any and all foreigners and to all international travel to any third world nation, and it would still be possible for certain viruses already present in our native population to mutate and cause outbreaks of serious illnesses from time to time.
Viruses are funny that way. They don’t look or care about a person’s immigration status before “deciding” whether to mutate or not.

When communicable diseases end up in the very same
states to which Obama is transporting criminal illegals
AND we KNOW that some have even had tuberculosis
and other diseases unchecked, your immediate
rule/out of any possible connection to the quartering
is .... at best, illogical.
Enteroviruses have been around forever and I don’t think you can link to any particular population. If anything I would blame the start of school (not school with immigrants just school is enough). There are plenty of treasonous things to hang on Obama, lets not start with the common cold.
Consider the epidemiology or will NOT deliver the best care.
And remember when looking at the maps below: the
