Even on a normal night, casinos can assault the senses with glitz, flashing lights, showgirls, cocktails, high rollers, fancy food and blaring music.

So it follows that the long-awaited opening night of the $442 million Horseshoe Casino Baltimore would include all of those things — but magnified tenfold.

A casino run by Caesars had opening night in downtown Baltimore. There is already a casino less than 15 miles away in suburban Baltimore, Maryland Live. MGM recently got approval to start construction of a casino in the National Harbor area. This will probably spell doom for the Delaware and WV casinos. My only complaint about this new one is no buffet. :(

Horseshoe? Shouldn’t it be the Raven Casino?

Nothing beats Vegas. Unless airfare and rooms skyrocket.

Being that Baltimore is a liberal pustule, one feels intuitively that this casino will go the way of those in Atlantic City.

And, actually my dear, I don’t give a d*mn.

Nope....it'll soon be called “the ghetto boat” when the indigenous criminal population “figgurs” out which bus/metro line to take to it.

WV lost a good chunk of business from PA since our casinos open. So did Atlantic City. Look for some major casino closures. Already happening in AC.

I’m still trying to figure out why they are still sending me property tax bills.

I am certain I heard Ed Rendell promise us that if we approved casino gambling the state would be awash in enough money to “fully fund” our public schools.

Ha-ha! My dad used to say there is no such thing as a temporary tax. Taxes never go away, no matter what the politicians tell you.

Here in PA we are still paying a “temporary” tax that was imposed to clean-up the Johnstown Flood of 1936!

Do these casinos check IDs when the customers try to enter?

Are they going to clean up the crime/panhandling in downtown Balto so people aren’t in fear going there?

IIRC there is still a tax on phone bills to pay for the Spanish American war. Taxes don't die, they must be beaten to death.

Most Casinos have sophisticated facial recognition capability. The owners are mainly interested in watching for the “black book” folks. The Feds should be using the casinos’ capability at airports, bus and train stations and borders.
