Michael Brown autopsy: No signs of struggle in fatal shooting

A preliminary autopsy commissioned by the family of Michael Brown suggests that there was no sign of a struggle in his death, and that all but one of at least six gunshot wounds in his body were likely survivable, according to Dr. Michael Baden, a renowned New York forensic pathologist who performed a private autopsy after a Ferguson, Mo., police officer killed the unarmed, black 18-year-old.

Baden said in his preliminary autopsy that he believes Brown would not have been able to survive the bullet that hit at the top of his head and traveled through his brain.

Appearing Monday before reporters in the sanctuary of the Greater St. Mark Family Church in St. Louis, Baden and three of the family’s attorneys went through the diagram of Brown’s wounds that was released with the autopsy.

"I believe one thing though, once brown violated the Cops space and went for the cops gun, he was committing suicide. I don’t care who what or where you are, you try taking a cops firearm and you’re going to get shot until you are dead."

Something we can agree on.

There was a struggle 10 min. earlier when MB backhanded and forcefully shoved the store clerk. Just because MB’s autopsy didn’t indicate that happened, it did.

Again, consider how momentum shows itself in the pictures of the crime scene.

Brown seems to have been moving forward (ending in a face-down position). And was a really big guy. Hence a good amount of momentum. Had he been close enough to the cop to rec powder burns, he would have still ended up face down, but ON TOP of the cop.

Which is something that the investigators will need to consider. Are cops trained to wait to the last moment to shoot (resulting in their attackers, altho wounded, still plowing into them and knocking them down) or earlier (to drop the attacker before a point where momentum will carry them into you.)?

Well I don’t blame the cop for shooting him dead if indeed he did go for his gun. I’m not going to buy any Marijuana inducing rage incident though, Marijuana just doesn’t work that way — that is unless dusted with another drug such as pcp or some of the bath salts kids have been trying.

Think how much differently this would have or may have played out if there were 2 cops in the patrol car? Or if he called it in before engaging.

At worst it sounds like a case of a cop being overzealous in a situation he shouldn’t have been.

It looked to me like that one was on a downward trajectory, so it probably would be survivable.

“The Department is going to have to release that information fast and play the media game. Otherwise, the narrative of execution will build and build.”

Doesn’t matter what they release. Mob rules in that area and all they want is a reason to riot and spew their anger at the world. Remember when the video of the “sweet teddy bear” strong arm robbing the store was released they went nuts saying it was an “attempt to smear Brown’s image”? Fact he was stealing and physically assaulting the employee was meaningless.

The battlefield is bing shaped by opposing counsel, the media and the DOJ. The officer is being convicted by the Governor and the Feds and the court will not be impartial to the ravening mob. Release of a medical report and pictures, assuming they show significant injury, would at least get the story out. Justice is not blind and the officer is close to dead man walking and a judge will do it to him playing to the mob.

Senile Dr. Baden strode there and said one round went in his head, came out his eyeball and re-entered his freakin arm before returning to re-enter his arm again . WTF? Foolish old man”

Well, he did do an autopsy on JFK, he is just having “magic bullet” flashbacks.

The family should ask itself, why did we raise a mugger?

The mob can not be allowed to dictate how the investigation or any legal proceeding is conducted.

I have sympathy for the parents. But the exploitative vultures who descend on them in their time of grief and anguish are scum.

You seem to be leaving out any information that would might justify the officer's action, i.e., the claim he was attacked by Brown, who struggled for the gun, etc.

I think we can agree that the multiple narratives on this event concur that the struggle took place in the police car while the shooting took place well away from the police car. The struggle, which supposedly justifies the shooting, was over and done when the final shots were fired. And, so far as I know at the moment, no shots were fired inside the police car.

This to me means Brown was running away and that Wilson had control of his firearm when the first shot, subsequent shots, and the last shot were all fired. The autopsy reports (both of them so far) do not mention any tattooing from powder as you'd see with someone who was shot at close range, especially with regards to the shots to the bare arm.

Officer Wilson has some explaining to do. I won't rush to judgment, but I'm just saying that the facts in the story are not exactly lining up with the official narrative.

"I thought the officer was treated for minor abrasions & contusions."

I'd heard that too, and that he was treated at the hospital, but we haven't any actual medical reports yet on him. If I recall correctly, after Trayvon Martin's autopsy, it was reportrd that he had no marks or abrasions to his hands or knuckles, but at the trial experts testified there were.

Is it just me, or is Baden’s story changing even as we watch?

Granted, I have not watched any press conferences, but the first report that I read said the eye socket bullet had gone out of the body and re-entered and that there were at least 6 bullets (which would mean that all the ones for the arms had to be unique bullets).

Then somebody said it was the shot to the top of the head that went out of the body and re-entered.

Now it seems like he’s claiming that the arm wounds aren’t unique bullets but ricocheted off the head (which would ruin the “at least 6 bullets” claim he initially made)...

This whole thing just sounds stupid to me. Like the story is shifting to fit whatever objections arise at the time.

So you’re saying that every police officer should be arrested after any type of shooting?

First, this is a straw man argument and I never play those silly games. Especially when they'renot even being played that well to begin with.

Second, and I quote Dick Cheney; I said what I said.
