When you and I were 12, we were really lucky to make $10 selling lemonade on even the hottest of days. But one very special 12-year-old isn’t making the big bucks on shilling drinks — she’s just sold a grand champion steer for a whopping $100,000.

Good publicity (and probably a tax deduction) for the buyers ... it’s not as if they can breed him.

Great for her, a record for the Illinois State Fair.

I’ll leave out the Texas bragging for comparisons.

I want to know what AT&T, Monsanto and DeKalb/Asgro are going to do with the animal.

This reminds me of when I was a kid we belonged to the FFA. We would show off our champion steers at the county fair. They were auctioned off at the end of the fair and grocery chains would bid up the prices to sell at their stores. We never made $100,000 but the prices were much higher then the standard price for beef. A certainly help fund our college education.

Because it’s the State Fair champ - a gesture from the buyer, supports future farmers, get them good press.

Maybe they’ll keep it around their headquarters to fertilize the landscaping.

Don’t knock Hillary!

She worked hard for her money!
(So hard for it honey!
She works hard for the money. So you better treat her right.)

For those who remember the Donna Summer song, you’ll understand my meaning.

The government will net around $40K for doing absolutely nothing. Who is the real winner here?

We buy one or two FFA pigs every year and we just bid $500 and take whatever we get.

$100k for a STEER? I could see it for a bull, but what are you going to do with $100k steer? Have a $10,000 steak?

"I want to know what AT&T, Monsanto and DeKalb/Asgro are going to do with the animal."

Sounds like they're making an investment in animal cattle breeding for the future. Monsanto and DeKalb/Asgro I can understand, but AT&T? That's a little ways from their main line of business. But then again I guess AT&T is only in for one third of the 100 grand for the steer.
