Surely, he had several million remaining after those divorces...and residuals. He blew through a lot of money. More than most people earth earn in their lives. Bad judgement after bad judgement.

Actually he divorced his first wife because he was having an affair with their nanny. I guess she is the second divorce in his life and now he killed himself while married to his third wife. But your point is taken. There is just too much palimony/alimony being paid, not to feed and clothe the kids, but to allow the woman to never work again in her life. And that is crazy.

On her ex’s behalf I will say he has lived up to the property settlement and the alimony without stiffing her. She worked for the first half dozen years of their marriage putting him through medical school and was a mother without a chance to do career development thereafter, so she is SOL at building a career in her fifties. She works but it is not the sort of field where she will have much income development.

This is SOP for showbiz. He chose the profession,he reaped the rewards and the pitfalls. His wives were very probably gold diggers, like most showbiz wives. But he should have known that.

“I am a Great House-Keeper — I keep the House from any guy that Divorces Me.” or words to that effect.

I once heard a showbiz type,in speaking of his several divorces, say that rather than get married again he should probably just find a woman who hated him and giver her a house.Funny stuff!

Sounds like he left the first one for the nanny, so I don't blame her for not sticking around.

The second one was with him for 20 years through numerous rounds of substance abuse, rehab, and relapses--crap that a whole lot of women wouldn't hang around for, especially if they could just get the money in the divorce anyway.

They don't sound like gold diggers.

Not according to some.

A few decades ago the US military noticed a disturbing trend in their retirees. They would divorce their spouse shortly before retirement and pick up a new toy for their new life.

The spouse who had followed them around the world and not had a chance to build any sort of career, (although they usually had jobs) was left with nothing.

They changed the rules so that if you had been married to your spouse for 10 years of your career they got half of your retirement and medical insurance.

The number of dumped spouses dropped dramatically.

Oh my.....Divorce is an UGLY thing......and EXPENSIVE!!! Whoever WANTS the divorce (barring ABUSE) should PAY and NOT get ALIMONY!!

Unfortunately, many people just want material things because they think it will make them happy. I have a cousin who has a hugh backyard. She plants her own fruits and vegetable and saves money. All she does is go to the store for Chicken and Fish since she is not into meat and raises chickens for the Egg. Yet she is very content. That is what I want a home with a hugh backyard to have my garden and save money. I have going to youtube video in how to can vegies LOL. I guess one would say I’m Prepping to Prep LOL

Can relate to that myself. Growing herb and tomato garden. With the LORD guiding me, I have growing a citrus grove on very small city yard. 12 huge mass producing citrus trees from Lowes patio trees. 2 grapefruit, 1 peach, 2 lemon, 1 kumquat, 2 tangerine, 1 lime, (two killed by Algore global cooling storm in February)3 orange. 3 concord grapevines, 2 pear trees. And this bounty I have to share and fight over with 8 NAZI squirrels. Husband says one day they will kill me for property rights. LOL. My garden is therapy and sanity in the insane world I find myself in. My dad and my husband’s dad were both poor fishermen but happy for the most part. Say Pinterest has some great garden stuff. Head other there and you will find some fabulous ideas, one leading to another. Nice chatting.

Amen!

I wish we would introduce an act that barring abuse, the initiator of the divorce should be the one footing the bills and forfeiting alimony. If the marriage is that bad, why on earth would someone want to retain ANY links?

I’m glad it was reformed.

This is another reason I believe women should work on careers when they are young and NOT sacrifice their own lives for that of others. If the husband wants a prestigious career, make him earn his own way, not make the wife do half the work and then end up ditched.

Why does a man owe a woman a monthly check for the rest of her life if they divorce?

That is a conundrum isn't it? Women are always hollering to be "treated as equal as men" yet they feel entitled to be supported by men.

Get some avocado trees going. I have a few plus muscadine grapes. The dark purple kind, not the bronze though they can be sweet even though they don’t look it. Carambola too.

None of that was the case with Mr. Williams.
