Actor had 'serious money troubles' after $30million divorce bills

As he stepped out on stage last year to hawk his big TV comeback in front of advertisers, comedy great Robin Williams joked it was 'nice to have a job where the checks will clear.'

After making his name as the eccentric and beloved alien on 1970s TV hit Mork and Mindy, Robin transferred his attentions to Hollywood with a stream of box office hits.

But after acclaim and an Oscar, the movie career started to dry up and the actor signed up for CBS show The Crazy Ones, a small-screen comedy about a 'renowned and slightly unhinged' advertising genius/madman.

While undoubtedly a coup for the network - CBS President Nina Tassler called him 'the biggest get of the season, actually many seasons' and 'one of the defining comedy voices of our time' - Robin was quick to admit he took the gig for cash.

The star's off-the-cuff joke to the room of TV executives, it turned out, was not so funny - in fact, he was being serious. Behind the grin, Robin was dogged by 'serious money troubles' from two divorces that had prompted him to put a Napa home up for sale, and was struggling with depression.

In September 2013, Robin told Parade magazine: 'The idea of having a steady job is appealing. I have two [other] choices: go on the road doing stand-up, or do small, independent movies working almost for scale [minimum union pay].

'The movies are good, but a lot of times they don’t even have distribution. There are bills to pay. My life has downsized, in a good way. I’m selling the ranch up in Napa. I just can’t afford it anymore.'

How disgusting; these women just can't get enough, can they? If these women want out of the marriage, they should pay their own divorce bills.

Some women find it their job to divorce well!

I am female and I agree with you. Just how much money does one need. She is partly to blame for this. I could not live with myself if I did something like that.

^These women are the reason so many men are bitter about women and marriage, making it difficult to find a happy man.

If I had been in his place, I would have protected myself with “pre-nup” agreements for sure. That weeds out the gold diggers fast.

Too bad.

Divorce is NOT ‘fair and just’...

... it is two lawyers fighting each other until all your money is gone, immediately followed by a stupid decision.

Why does a man owe a woman a monthly check for the rest of her life if they divorce?

Pigs, the lot of them; it should be considered a civil rights violation to take so much and then force the husband to pay the entire bill. If the women want out, let them pay the bill.

I fully agree; just an upscale version of welfare and if being married to man in question is so horrible, why maintain the attachment.

Even then, the tarts try to challenge the pre-nup.

Don’t blame the women when it was the man who chose to marry four times.

He lived a lifetime where he kept himself overextended on his finances. He had that ranch and he also had a $28 million dollar villa.

It’s unfortunate that he didn’t prepare for the possibility that he would no longer get $13 million dollar a movie, four movies a year, but that is what did him in.

...”Robin was dogged by ‘serious money troubles’ from two divorces that had prompted him to put a Napa home up for sale, and was struggling with depression”.....

Plenty other men have had divorces and depression who have not taken their life....with or without money problems. So that’s a cop-out.

Bottom line..Robbins told the world..”I’m not going to do life life anymore”....He quit the race.

According to the article, Mr Williams paid his two divorced wives in full and still had an estate worth between $50 to $150 million dollars.

Doesn't seem to me money, nor ex-wives were the cause of his mental anguish.

But it is life. Everyone has problems, and I mean everyone.

I can’t stand showbiz people.

My read on this guy was he was too old-fashioned and sweet natured to ask for a pre-nup. Surely thought he was marrying his true love each time and thought it unnecessary, or disrespectful towards her.

I can think of far lesser people for whom the flags have flown half mast.

....”Why does a man owe a woman a monthly check for the rest of her life if they divorce?”.....

He doesn’t...Williams just ‘chose’ not to carry out other options available....like get a new attorney!

It is all about feeling important. I know places where $1 million would make a comfy life. Who blows through $50 -$150 million divorce or not.
