Zachary Swanson, 31, has had to have his arm amputated below the elbow after his housemates Paul Hurst, 33, and Carey Edwards, 35, allegedly tried to remove his tattoo in an hours long attack. Wicomico Country Sheriff Mike Lewis said that Zachary was "savagely beaten and nearly killed".
Hurst and Edwards were said to have attempted to "forcibly carve a unique tattoo" from Swanson's right arm on Monday morning.
Failing to remove the tattoo with a blade, the two men doused his arm in a flammable liquid and set it alight, Mike Lewis said.
The two men, Hurst and Edwards savagely attacked Swanson because they thought that he had disrespected the Insane Clown Posse and no longer deserved the tattoo, police said.
Swanson's tattoo was associated with Juggalos, cult fans of American hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse; known for their vivid and contrasting clown make-up.
"I can't imagine the pain that the victim went through," Mr Lewis told Delaware Online.
According to the sheriff, all three men were Juggalos.
Charging documents reportedly state that Hurst and Edwards were angry with Swanson about the way that he treated his girlfriend (who happens to be Edwards' sister).
Swanson was left on the ground without medical treatment for several hours after the assault, police said.
Aside from the obvious damage to his arm, he also suffered fractures, brain bleeding, 11 broken ribs and a liver laceration. He remains to be in a critical but stable condition at a Baltimore burns centre.
Hurst and Edwards are being held without bond on attempted murder and assault charges.

Actually they are part of the new “adult children” part of society. They may be of a chronological age of 20 to 40 year old but have an arrested mental age of 10 - 14. Watch a few TV advertisements and you will realize that advertisers have already targeted the new “adult children” market.

The Juggalos are not a criminal gang. That implies they’re smart enough to organize themselves. I would suggest to the band that now it’s an even better idea to build a cyclone-fence-and-razor-wire screen around the stage when they’re on tour. Fellas, a lot of your fans clearly have trouble distinguishing your performance persona from the real you, and think you guys really do carve people up with a hatchet in your spare time.
I just checked and they label themselves a “Cerebral Gothic Metal” band. lol
