Chrome is throwing false 'Malware' detection for Free Republic
7/29/2014

Posted on 07/29/2014 6:51:20 AM PDT by Lazamataz

I no longer use Microsoft Internet Explorer, MS has pretty much destroyed that product. I now use Google Chrome.

This morning, on two separate computers, Chrome has thrown a false malware warning for Free Republic (the pings url, to be specific). Apparently, 'secretsofthefed.com' is defined as a Malware site, and somehow, my pings has that in the list somewhere. Thusly, it is throwing a Malware lockout. You can get past it, but it is annoying and unnecessary, and would prevent less-savvy users from going to FR.

This MAY be happening only for those users who happen to have that website (www.secretsofthefed.com) cited in their ping list, or it may be for everyone. We shall see.

This is just a heads up service for anyone getting this result, and a technical note for the administration here.

Didn’t see that coming...

Laz, I dropped CA as my anti-virus software several years back because of a similar thing. They blocked Free Republic as a hate site.

Thanks, but no thanks. There is nothing remotely appealing I find about Google, or Google Chrome, regardless of its capabilities or warnings.

LOL. I guess Google, being a NWO company, would see that site as malware.

Can’t you tell chrome to “ignore” that site as malware ?

What link or thread are you using? Running Opera here and FR loads up fine. A direct typing of secretsofthefed.com leads right to the website with no problems, but I can try it also from another machine that still has mozilla-firefox installed if you want more info.

Google is again doing its part to help opponents of B. Hussein as the Mid Term Election Campaign Season heats up.

Expect Google to do even more “distractive destruction” as the 2014 Impeachment of Obama draws nearer.

It’s a link in a particular thread, it appears. Those Meme images will trigger a warning for me on occasion.

Curiously, when I went to look for the website in my 'pings' I could not find it after all. It apparently saw 'secretsofthefed' elsewhere, and blocked the site.

Now, I wouldn't normally say anything about this if it happened on one computer, but it happened on two. That means it would be happening at the Chrome/browser level.

It also looks like it just stopped happening.

Who knows. It is definitely something to keep an eye on. 'They' might try to lock FR out at the browser level someday, this would be how it might look.

The link is in the image I provided. I wouldn't bother testing, it looks like Chrome stopped doing it.

Right after I posted this thread that busted them out.

Hmm.

Nope. Tried it with Opera and firefox on another machine and no problems so far.

>>Laz, I dropped CA as my anti-virus software several years back because of a similar thing.

That message is from Chrome itself.

No problem with Chrome here, Laz. You might get some more info by clicking the Advanced button that you could post as well.
