Which are the best miniseries ever?

Posted on 07/27/2014 7:40:44 PM PDT by MNDude

I don't watch TV much these days, so I can't say what have been popular miniseries in the past decade or so, but I remember there used to be big budget miniseries on TV all the time (A.D., The Winds of War, Roots. Etc). In your opinion, what were the greatest miniseries of all time?

Just thought of another mini-series I watched way back when: The Awakening Land (1978) with Elizabeth Montgomery as frontierswoman Sayward Luckett, and her struggles in Ohio during the late 18th-century and early 19th-century. Co-stars Hal Holbrook, Jane Seymour, William H. Macy.

"Victory at Sea."

I remember watching that as a kid with my parents. In fact, I've got the soundtrack on CD.

Loved “A Very British Coup”. My favorite part was when the PM was forced to go on television and resign, but instead turns the tables and reveals the incident which those who were trying to blackmail him were using.

“Why...he’s telling the truth!”

“He can’t do that...he’s the Prime Minister!”

"Awakening Land."

I just posted that. Elizabeth Montgomery was excellent in that series.

It’s hard to think of Ohio ever being a frontier. Elizabeth had been my favorite actresses after that series.

Is that because you are poor, or is that comment just posted because you want everyone to think you are better than them?

A Town Called Alice; Brian Brown was stunningly good in the part.

A Town Like Alice was the absolute BEST thing ever on TV!

It introduced me to Nevil Shute and all of his novels.

Trustee from the Toolroom is as good as 'Alice" but was never made into a movie.
