As a woman, I NEVER leave my purse anywhere, anytime. It is “strapped” to me, if you catch my drift.

Dude, you were had.
Women never go to the ladies room without their repair kit.

Women are ALWAYS recording you whether they have an electronic device or not.

I wouldn’t have left it on the table. Of course, I wouldn’t have left an interview to use the restroom, either.

I never put my purse on any table. ewwweeew. Who knows there that purse has been. So yup, she recorded it to find out whether you said anything even remotely sexist. I don’t know what the laws are in your state but I would talk to a lawyer about this.... maybe a female lawyer.

I agree, I would never leave my purse with someone I don’t know, sometimes even the ones I do know.

How close was she when she emailed “possible objections to be discussed” to what you discussed with her purse?

Your friend was right. She was recording you. I am not a woman but have dated many over the years. No woman deliberately leaves her purse alone at the table while she goes to the W.C. by herself or with others. The most she might do is ask you to keep an eye on it while she leaves for a moment -on the seat next to you, not on the table where anyone passing by might nick it.

I thought women took their purses to the bathroom with them and not just because of privacy or theft concerns, but because they like to carry all their female needs and tools with them.

I think she was recording you. I would never leave my purse with anyone other than my husband. Even then it’s rare, most especially if I am going to the restroom. If I am going to go get more drinks maybe.

Are you in a state that prohibits recording a conversation without permission from all parties?

Never in a million years. Of course I purse carry so that adds to it but... nope. We don’t leave our purses.

I think it is odd, but not unheard of. If her email mentioned things that you had brought up while she was away, then I think you’ve got something, but if not, then I think your coworker is being paranoid. There are probably laws about taping without your consent, so if you are concerned, check in to what those might be.

I am assuming you live in Minnesota. If so and this conversation and alleged recording took place in Minnesota, do not hire her. She broke the law.

Minnesota is a one party consent state:

A one-party consent state permits individuals to record conversations to which they are a party without informing the other parties that they are doing so. In other words, one-party states allow recording of phone calls or conversations with the consent of only one of the parties to the conversation.

Since she was not a party to this conversation, she has in effect committed a wire-tapping felony. If you can get her to admit she recorded you in front of a witness or on a recording, tell her to not bother objecting or you will inform the authorities. End of story.

If there was a recording device, then it is likely anything she gets would be totally illegal to be used in any way as doing such a thing is a felony in many places without your knowledge.

I grew up in farm country, so I don’t carry a purse. I know that sounds unusual and I have considered carrying one, I do take a backpack to work for carrying certain useful items.

But I would be suspicious as heck, I would have left the room and discussed outside the room.

Could be she was “lawsuit shopping” a employment discrimination lawsuit.

What state are you in? Some states only have to have one party consent to recording...
