"Absolutely! I had a vet that used to work for Purina or something like it. She helped to develop one of the dry foods. After she became a vet and her own cat got diabetes, she was adamant about not feeding dry food, even the one she created!"

I think the realization of how bad dry food really is for cats came slowly, and is still ongoing. My last cat developed diabetes, too, and his food was likely the cause of it. Next time I'm going for one of the all-protein foods.

Our three kitties get a couple of ounces of fresh meat twice a day. We rotate between chicken, pork and organs.

They are extremely well muscled, have beautiful coats and a pleasant musky aroma. Even better, their poo doesn’t stink.

Cats are not omnivores. They are obligatory carnivores.

With due respect, never said they were omnivores.

“any doubt the greenfreaks are insane and dangerous to all life on earth ? “

How much damage and destructions to fetuses and new born babies do these veggie freaks cause.

We know about the fetal alcohol syndrome how about the veggie fetal baby syndrome?

Over the years, a RN, we know, kept track of miss carriages and very small premature babies born to vegans. The latest happened when a vegan mother lost one of her twins in her womb, and delivered the survivor weighing in at less than 3 pounds, 3 months early. The surviving child was in intensive neo natal care for months.

My mother had advance degrees in diagnosing reading problems and correction if possible. A few decades ago, she discovered that many children in the 3rd and 4th grades with severe reading problems, were preemie babies, born earlier than 9 months and with very low birth weights.

She wanted to do a PHD study/thesis on this problem and was told by her two universities to forget it.

Now we wonder how many of those lose birth weight preemies suffered from pregnant mothers not eating a good balanced diet.

“Exactly. Cats can’t digest carbohydrates properly. That includes dry food. It’s touted as “healthy” for felines, but it’s high in carbs and is very likely responsible for many cases of diabetes in cats.”

Sounds like cats have the same problem with a high carb diet as we can have with the government recommended high carb diet.

We had a cat named Louis who liked one particular veggie. Every time a can would get opened he would run into the kitchen area meowing. He begged for string cut green beans until you relented and gave him some (regardless of what you had just opened). He also liked red licorice. He was by far my favorite cat; very smart, very playful and yet very well mannered.

Current cat is very sickly, but he got a few morsels of T-Bone steak last night (he gets very few pleasures in life at this point). I figured a tiny bit of garlic isn’t going to do him any more harm, plus he gets a rare treat. Poor guy has almost no hair left from being on Prednisone long term.

Garlic-butter mushrooms sound delish. Wish you could fax some over for ME. My cat really enjoys and thrives on his diet: Grain-free crunchies (Indigo Moon) all day plus Fancy Feast for breakfast. Some vets say that crunchies are not enough because cats don't drink enough water, so I mix water into his Fancy Feast pate, making it soupy. He thinks that's fine.

I had a cat that would eat virtually any human food, as long I was eating it. If I put it on a plate on the floor - no way. We also had a donut-loving cat. But of course that wasn’t her primary diet. ;-)

Nice link, thanks. I tried to be a vegetarian and it made me very weak and dizzy. I don’t like the idea of feedlot animals and the cruelty and disease that goes with it, so found a nearby ranch that raises grass-fed cattle and hogs, plus chickens and the best eggs in the world. PLUS organic veggies. So I pay more and eat less and that is all to the good.

My kitteh man does not like top sirloin…whazzamattah with him? I tried super-premium cat cans, but he really likes Fancy Feast. I think it has a lot of salt that cats like…so be it.

There certainly are cats who break the rules. I never owned one, unfortunately. I’d enjoy seeing a cat eat a donut!

Reminds me of a darling black cat that *loved* cantaloupe.

She could be MIA for days on end....but cut open a cantaloupe and she’d be under foot instantly!

I kid you not, I had a black cat that loved watermelon. Give him the rind, and he would lick it forever.

Of course, we gave the poor cat no end of grief for being black and loving watermelon, but he did not care. He loved avocado peels too. Had many odd food favorites.
