(Reuters) - An office worker at an Ohio regional airport has died from head injuries she sustained after walking into a spinning airplane propeller, authorities said on Wednesday.
Sarah Rhoads, 24, who worked at Start Skydiving, died Tuesday from injuries she suffered on Sunday at Middletown Regional Airport, which is about 40 miles (64 km) north of Cincinnati, authorities said.
Rhoads was conscious with a severe injury to her skull when she was taken by helicopter to a Dayton hospital, a Middletown police report said.

How sad. I hope she wasn’t distracted by texting.
I worked on the flight deck of a carrier for the better part of four years, and all it takes is that one time.
That one lapse of awareness can kill you, and in the case of this poor woman, it probably did.
I had heard of a guy who walked into an E-2 prop once (I believe it was on the Constellation or the America) and they said the gore was appalling.
I wonder where OSHA is.....they should have mandated steel helmets for all workers on the tarmac and mandate warning labels on propellers ..to stop people from making stupid life endings mistakes...

I know...don’t give them any ideas...
What’s the last thing to go though John Denver mind before he died...
The propeller....
Sad. Never walk through a propeller arc! Never! If you never do it when the prop isn’t turning, you won’t do it when it is.
A simply horrific tragedy. :-(
The gun is ALWAYS loaded...treat it accordingly.
The prop is ALWAYS spinning...stay the f&*k away from it.
If you are the pilot....someone is ALWAYS too close to the spinning prop so pay very close attention.
It sucks that she probably knew what hit her.
I read in one report the she was used to their company’s planes that had the propeller in the front. This particular plane had them on the wings.
I imagine the impact into any helmet would be enough. Propellers go very very fast with a lot of inertia. If the helmet was strong enough the neck would probably rip away sending the helmeted head sailing and would become FOD.
Lack of situational awareness.
Sounds like that would be a great episode of “myth busters”....
Maybe they should be equipped with some kind of running lights so that when they are spinning they can be more readily seen.
The answer is obvious: ban all propellers.
Yeah. All that noise they make isn't enough warning.
Words to live by.
Right?
