Toddler critically injured by ‘flash bang’ during police search

A 19-month-old boy critically injured when a police device was tossed into his bed has a 50 percent chance of surviving, his parents said today. But a northeast Georgia sheriff defends the officers’ actions, calling it a tragic accident. “The last thing you want is law enforcement to injure someone innocent,” Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “There was no malicious act performed. It was a terrible accident that was never supposed to happen.” Hours after a confidential informant said he bought methamphetamine from Wanis Thometheva at a Habersham County home late Tuesday, officers returned to the home to arrest him.

3am, a no knock warrant, the flash bang gernade lands in the playpen and the baby's face and chest are ripped open. I dont know how this could have been avoided unless the cops waited until maybe 6:30am when they would have still been asleep but it is daylight. Now the cop that threw the grenade has to live with this the rest of his life. However, the bottom line is if no drugs had been sold out of the house, no cops would have been there at 3am.

If I can be charged with a crime that was done by accident so should the police. Two sets of laws are not acceptable.

Will the collectivists start calling the cops baby killers?

Well gee perhaps if they didn’t blindly follow some informants story and maybe checked into the house before throwing bombs around they wouldn’t have killed a baby who had nothing to do with drugs.

But hey they got a drug arrest. That’ll look good come annual performance time.

After all its just another future criminal they’d have to arrest when he got older.

Warrants didn't used to be carried out like this. And the bad guys got arrested anyway.

It's time to dial down the military style aggression by law enforcement.

Well cmon, just because he threw it in the babies playpen doesn’t mean he should be responsible.

What makes you think cops haven’t killed innocent people before when they attack the wrong house? That could happen to any of our families...unless you are living in a tony gated neighborhood.

The kid is just acceptable collateral damage in the war on drugs. Never mind the president is supporting use of drugs and encouraging the people who sell it.

I do note the absence of Dawgs in the story, so at least the cops didn’t do anything indiscriminately. ..

All this, to make sure the occupants didn’t have the opportunity to destry evidence (drugs).

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

All take notice - pity to the cop - not the sleeping child that the cop threw a grenade at. Yup, too bad for the cop. Well, that kid should not have chosen a drug dealer to live with.

Judging by the TV movies that I see today, American cops have morphed into jack-booted thugs. What happened to the “good old boy on the beat”?
All I see today is “Get on the ground..GET ON THE GROUND, NOW”

The cops are totally out of control. And the reason is there are too many idiots who believe all cops are wonderful examples of men. When most of them are uneducated fat, lazy thugs on a power trip. It won’t be long before no innocent people will be safe from those who are supposed to protect and serve. We’ll all be cavity searched and put in jail to rot away like a Marine in Mexico. All because too many people think cops only arrest guilty people.

I would do everything I could to help someone get elected who would run on a “The cops are out of control” platform.

I saw a fat cop pull his gun on someone in a very crowded supermarket parking lot yelling “Get on the fu..king ground! On the fu..king ground!” Women and kids all over the place. The guy he was screaming at was looking around with that “You screaming at me?” look. He didn’t arrest the man and nobody knows what the hell the cop was doing.

I called the guy’s precinct station to complain and was told they didn’t have a cop in that area. Lying bastards.

Wrong! To the cops and the DA EVERYONE is guilty until they prove themselves innocent. I told that to a DA once and she got mad but couldn’t present an argument proving me wrong. I won the argument by saying “If you really thought everyone was innocent until proven guilty you’d present the facts at trial and not always go for a conviction. And don’t tell me you haven’t prosecuted people you thought were innocent.” She walked away.

You and your type make me sick. Defending these irrational thugs. You are disgraceful and you define what’s gone wrong with this once-fine country.

What that cop has to live with is nothing compared to what the toddler has to live with. There is almost never justification for no knock warrants.

Turn off the water, then the occupants can only flush evidence once.
No need for Nazi tactics then.
