Your coffee maker can now brew your entire breakfast before you head out the door in the morning.
Golden Valley-based General Mills has launched Nature Valley-brand oatmeal thats made in a Keurig brewer a machine that makes single servings of coffee, tea and other beverages using a single-serve capsule or pod (also known as a K-Cup), the Washington Post says.
Heres how it works: Hot water from the Keurig runs through flavor pods (K-Cups) and into a mug filled with Nature Valley Bistro Cups oatmeal, to be mixed with an additional packet of nuts and fruit.
This is General Mills first new oatmeal product since the 1990s. The General Mills blog says it is also the first non-beverage product that can be made in a Keurig, however Food Business News says last year the Campbell Soup Co. announced the Campbells Fresh-Brewed K-Cup packs.
The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal notes that the market for hot cereals is growing faster than traditional cereals, which accounts for one-fifth of General Mills revenue in the United States.
Keurig wasnt involved in the deal patents on the K-Cup technology expired in 2012, so there have been a number of non-Keurig products on the market to use with the brewer, Food Drive says.
The Nature Valley Bistro Cups Oatmeal which are available in brown sugar pecan and apple cinnamon almond can be purchased on Amazon.com and Sams Club stores and will be available in grocery stores later this year, General Mills says.
Saying grits (ground corn) is the same as Cream of Wheat (ground wheat) is like saying a sirloin steak is the same as hamburger...................
*laugh* OK, mate. Guess I’ll have to ask someone to make some so I can try, then. Thanks for the clarification! *grin*
That’s what I was thinking. Reminds me of Father Guido Sarducci as a spokesman for “Mr. Tea” - a funnel on a stand you poured hot water through...
Family Dollar sells K-Cup filter cups that you can put anything into. Grind your own beans..................
I put oatmeal, or porridge, into a Thermos food jar, then pour hot water into it, then seal,it and go to bed. It’s ready by morning and still fairly warm.
They have a flavor all their own. You can mix them with overeasy eggs or butter all by themselves, sugar not necessary.
I use olive oil instead of butter................
Follow my suggestion as it works with steel cut oats as well.
That sort of kills the point of the Keurig. Sure, it costs more, but you are paying for convenience. My wife and I use the Keurig for extra cups if we finish a pot of traditionally drip brewed coffee; or if we want a cup without making a pot; or if we have guests who do not like coffee as strong as what the wife and I drink; or if someone wants a flavored coffee like French vanilla, etc.
Mines even easier, my wife made me bacon and eggs with a side of toast and fruit.
I did have to roll out of bed though.
Take your pick!.....................
Next time you buy K-cups take a look at what you pay per pound of coffee. Buy a can at $12.00 bucks a pound or buy K-cups at $34.00 per pound on sale. My daughter bought us one of those machines and we used the little filter thingy and filled our own. Since you had to wait for it to brew the first cup it gave us time to fill another. (Note two filter thingys)
Big Lots is SUPPOSEDLY going to be rolling out Frozen Food sections this year. In the meantime, we get bargains in the Freezer section of Dollar Tree, and outstanding deals from the Sharp Shopper, a small chain of “grocery outlets” that basically run down I-81 from southern Pennsylvania, through western Maryland, and down the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. ..
Our Big Lots already has a frozen food and dairy section! Just last month!.....................
Not necessarily. A K-cup machine, and refillable K-cups (we use Eco-Brews, they were on sale) works well when there’s only one coffee drinker in the house. . .
“My microwave is almost my wife”
My wife had a defective defrost setting.
Mmmm...nothing better than real grits with country-ham red-eye gravy made with coffee.
Damn ... another keyboard
I had 2 of those. More trouble than they were worth. I can make 1 cup of coffee with a regular pot too.......or 12. Much more versatile.
