Two pit bulls broke through a fence in a Nevada community, entered a neighbor's home through a dog door and killed three dogs inside while the residents were away, animal control officers said.

Jennifer, a resident of the home in the Reno suburb of Spanish Springs returned Friday to find Jill, a black lab, Gucci, a shih tzu, and Buddy a Pekingese dead inside inside the house on Reiger Springs Drive.

The dogs were seized and their owner is facing a citation, said Barry Brode, director of Washoe County Animal Services. The pit bulls could be euthanized if a judge orders it.

I've killed a half dozen dogs

CORRECTION. PIT BULLS. Never had to shoot another breed of dog. Pits on the lose in Central AR are a BIG problem and have killed a half dozen people recently. I think 3 in 2013.

I wonder what is the maximum amount that could be claimed and awarded

It's the old blood and turnip problem. Most of the pit bull owners have enough money to buy their next pack of cigarettes, about 20 scratch off lotto tickets and a six pack of beer. SO you can get a judgment against them. but they can't or won't pay. You can attach wages, but I don't think you can attach welfare payments.

The dog killed your animal, but you don’t think the dog is at fault? Okay. Did any other neighborhood dogs kill any of your animals? Didn’t think so.

Police officers often go onto people’s property to shoot their dogs that are not bothering anybody. I am pretty sure that is not what AG meant with his post.

A similar story happened here in the Houston area. Same breed of dog, same MO. Pitbulls got over the fence and into the house via the doggy door and killed 2 Jack Russells. This is a good reason to not use doggy doors.

There should be especially severe fines and jail terms for owners of these animals...and in all cases, the dogs should be put down.

” And when they turn, it’s not the same as a weiner dog turning. It’s a little more impactive to all concerned.”

I’ve had dogs over half my life and am very good at reading them. For two decades I had a job that took me into 20 houses a week, many without the owner’s present.

In all that time I was able to befriend every evil dog except for two chows and one wiener dog.

The wiener dog was possessed by satan and truly scared the crap out of me.

AND THESE ARE JUST 2013! We have had a half dozen or more pit bull attacks that did not cause a fatality.

LIke I said, a pitbull not on a leash, yard, or cage, my window rolls down and my suppressed .22LR sends a round into their skull.

Deputies identify 4-year-old boy killed by pit bulls in White County

....and....

UPDATE 01/03/14: According to an affidavit, the bullmastiff-pit bull mix that fatally attacked 75-year old Joan Kappen on November 21 in Hot Springs Village is from the same litter as a bullmastiff-pit bull mix that killed 5-year old Ayden Evans on June 9 in Jessieville.

you could not pay me to keep a pit bull and if some errant owner allowed his pits to kill my dog there would be hell to pay . Pits are killers and that’s all there is to it . Why any choose to keep them I cannot fathom .

“All pit-bulls should be tossed in a trash compactor, crushed, and sent to the landfill.”

Seriously Beagle, tell us how you really feel.

That’s a joke...

But after they’ve run amok the damage is already done.

There are so many much less dangerous breeds that there’s just no excuse—machismo included—to have dogs that aren’t reliably man’s best friend.

Insurance companies (and vets) know the breed too—which should be a pretty good hint.

Some people want lions as pets, but we don’t allow it. There’s really no need for faux wolves either.

I see a pit bull not on a leash and I shoot him dead on the spot.

I came close to doing that a couple of years ago. I was walking my Corgi one evening (not quite dark out) when a Pitbull attacked him from behind about 5 houses down from mine. This dog did not bark, or otherwise signify its presence. It silently ran up and had my dog by the back of the neck and was violently shaking him like a rag-doll. The Pitbull had no collar and no owner was around. I was walking armed with my .38 Airweight in my pocket holster. I wasn't even sure if my dog was alive when I shot the Pitbull once. He still continued as if nothing had happened until I shot it again; at which point it released my dog and slunk off into the yard.

Before I could call the police, a policewoman drove up almost immediately. She either had heard the shots or may have seen at least one of them. she was en route because they had already been called because the dog had cornered a lady in her garage (at the house where I shot the dog). The police were very supportive. They took my pistol and CHL and returned them after I'd made a report. the pitbull actually survived. Both my shots hit it, but they hit muscle and passed through.

The thing that gets me about it is the way the pitbull silently ran from the garage where the lady was trapped straight to my dog with the express motive of killing it. the dog just freakin' appeared. For a second I was dumbfounded as I didn't know what was happening. It was as if Samantha from Bewitched had twitched her nose and a killer dog suddenly appeared out of nowhere. It was a "now you don't see it, now you do" situation. the dog had "broken out of its own fence" after its owner had gone to work and was out to see what it could kill, I guess. Before shooting it, i tried kicking it and grabbing it. It had mass like a sack of concrete.

My dog survived with only some puncture wounds on the back of his neck.

I’m similar to you regarding dogs. The only time I’ve been bitten was by a german shepard. I offered my hand and he bit it. Hard.

I think the point I am trying to make in my previous posts was made in that commercial where a chiuaua mixes with some big dog (a doberman, I think) and the dog with a big vicious head has the personality of a chiuaua, making it exceedingly vicuous. It’s pretty funny.

If it had been my dogs killed (if I had dogs), I would insist that the pit bulls be killed, that I be reimbursed for my dogs and emotional trauma, and most importantly, that the pit bull owner be jailed as irresponsible. I cannot even imagine what personal hell this poor woman must be going through. I am traumatized just THINKING about G-d forbid coming home and finding this horror, losing 3 innocent and well-loved pets all at once, defenseless and trapped in the house to be slaughtered.
