I didn’t expect to like the hobbit series but it suprised me and I am hooked. Looking forward to the extended version.

I fear you may be disappointed, the principal reason being that the proportion of Tolkein in the new series is much smaller (as of course it would be, the Hobbit being a much shorter work).
