As I used to say, “Yeah, I am funny, but looks don’t count.”

"If you are relatively near that thing, you will either move south, or you will die." Time to invade Mexico?

Not downwind? It’s an extinction level event, doesn’t matter which way the wind is blowing. Could even cause Vernshot.

“...Everything west of the Mississippi...”

Wrong! The states of Washington, Oregon and parts of California do OK. Texas has experienced ash fall in past eruptions, so I wouldn’t want to be in Texas.

Basically, massive farming processes will halt and the weather will be really nasty for a few years, with possible perpetual winter.

Yeah? So what! My ancestors survived years that had no summers in England. That was around 1312 AD and later. That was when the glaciers started growing, up until circa 1850 AD.

Where I live is about 50-miles up the Columbia River from the Pacific. We can collect water from snow or rain. Salmon in the river, deer or elk in the woods, we can eat that protein. Filbert nut trees grown well here, and are abundant.

Really nasty weather, you say? Artichokes, asparagus, cabbage and cauliflower love it. Since I’m allergic to wheat, I won’t miss bread any more than I do now.

Aren’t these herds migratory?

It’s spring...they are on the move

So are the elk.

A few days ago I looked down into town just in time to see 25 or 30 elk in a tight herd heading toward the intersection. Traffic stopped completely to let them go through. (As if the drivers had a choice!)

The elk held to the outer lane, all trotting together in a tight group, and turned the corner very neatly.

I thought at the time that there must be a sale at Macy’s but maybe they were running from Yellowstone.

:-)
