The human race is on the brink of momentous and dire change. It is a change that potentially smashes our institutions and warps our society beyond recognition. It is also a change to which almost no one is paying attention. Im talking about the coming obsolescence of the gun-wielding human infantryman as a weapon of war. Or to put it another way: the end of the Age of the Gun.

Unfortunately, a drone can see ya in the dark, way out of your range.
Drones should be outlawed for use over the CONUS.
“The Peace War” offers a scenario in which a population reduced to a feudal lifestyle by an overwhelmingly advantaged set of overlords, stealthily counter the technology disparity holding them hostage.
They must trust “Command and Control” to never be usurped, or have many a sleepless night.
New equipment in development to operate in the “terahertz gap” between microwave and IR.

There was a book I read some decades ago (and I can’t recall the name of it off hand although I am sure it will come to mind) but the author there postulated that nanotechnology would be able to do this very thing, infect our DNA and make us virtual slaves.
Whoever developed the technology first would be the one to rule the world as there would be no defense if our DNA was reprogrammed to accept the leadership of the (essentially) overlords.
Ahh, would be interested if you can find a link.
The reason I mentioned it is that a lot of people have the idea that infrared can “see through walls.” I work with infrared almost every day, and I’d like to stress that it can do NO SUCH THING. With minor exceptions such as being able to see right through plastic that is opaque to visible light. (OTOH, most types of glass are mirrors to IR.)
I’ve seem multiple idiotic movies and TV shows where snipers “look through the walls” with an IR scope, but it really doesn’t work that way. IR reads the surface temperature. You can make logical deductions about what this indicates about conditions below the surface or on the other side of the wall, especially if you know how the wall was built. But that’s it.
Or like what happened to Tom Cruise in Minority Report, pre eye transplant.
This is not a new discussion. It’s not just drones. Add in “metadata” collection of our calls, internet surveillance, control of cell phones, and ubiquitous cameras and a revolution becomes almost impossible.
F-16 Drone (Pretty Neat)
You may have seen this. Not a good day for the future of manned aircraft.
The pilot is on the endangered list it seems. This little 4 minute Boeing
