He certainly deserves a place at the table with them....Let’s see if he can keep his emotions in check.

Russia (coached by Capello) is another dark horse.

Croatia made it to the final four in 1998, but no doubt all their players from that team have retired by now. They beat the Netherlands in the consolation match.

Modric is still a good player.

LOL I just always instinctively knew soccer wasn’t my game.

Modric is 28 now—he was 12 at the time of the 1998 World Cup.

I feel sorry for the Germans.

Also the Ghanaians and Portuguese.

Loved the first goal. Reminded me, in terms of shot-shaping, of this masterpiece by Wayne Rooney (except this was on the full volley):

Second goal doesn’t happen if the defender closes down Suarez when he flicks the ball into the air. Too much space — and you pay for it.

We beat England in 1950 and we are going to beat Germany in 2013. "You know, by God I actually pity those poor bastards we’re going up against. By God, I do. We’re not just going to shoot the bastards, we’re going to cut out their living guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We’re going to murder those lousy Hun bastards by the bushel."

Hehe.. ya, I was fine with baseball, track, football, track (and cross-country in the off season to keep me in shape, but puking after every meet... I was a sprinter.. distance killed me >.<)... Soccer was sos hated where I was from, I can’t think of a single location in my state that the school played it..

I DID see a few schools start playing it in the early ‘90s though, and told myself... “uh-oh”, the end has begun...

;^)

Problem is they’ve gone through about 4 coaches in recent memory, maybe this current one will be better.

That goal reminded me of Bergkamp.

Agreed. Pretty much a classic move. Suarez is great at making space for himself and his creativity equals his skill. As a longtime United fan, that really annoys me to say. :)

Yeah, your post #45 said everything.

Anyone can play it, don’t have to be tall, don’t have to be super strong. That is a good thing about Soccer.

But you are entitled to your opinion.

“Anyone can play it, don’t have to be tall, don’t have to be super strong. That is a good thing about Soccer.”

Anyone can play it, but it takes a lot to be good at it (including the ability to play for 90 minutes, only broken by half-time). With limited substitutions and no time-outs, endurance is key to soccer; it has no fat people.
