1. M1 Garand
2. Colt Peacemaker
3. Smith & Wesson Model 629
4. Colt Model 1911
5. Colt Python 6" barrel
6. Remington 870
7. Remington 700
8. Glock 17
9. Colt AR-15
10. AK-47
I'll nitpick his list a bit in that I don't think you could acquire all of the above for only $5K...my rough estimate is that it would take at least $7K or $8K to purchase all of the above at today's prices.
By the strictest definition, I have four out of the ten in my collection. If you count an AK-74 and a Glock 22, I have six.
Three out of ten.
I like the selection.
3 out of 10. And the Ruger .22LR should be on everyone’s list.
Take off the pos AK-47 and Remington 870 and put in a Thompson .45 machine gun (Tommy Gun for all those in Rio Linda) and a Winchester Model 12 pump shotgun.
And there’s not a .22 on the list?
Let’s not forget...
Browning Hi-Power
Remington nylon 66.
S&W Highway Patrolman.
Years ago in Shooting Times magazine, Skeeter Skelton wrote that if he was allowed ONE HANDGUN, it would be a S&W 19 .357 mag with a five inch barrel.
My experience with the Colt Peacemaker is that it broke the bolt (cylinder stop) too many times to be reliable. I would replace it with a Ruger.
I think it depends on why you “must have” the firearm and furthermore, that’s a “want to have” list, not a must have list. For example, I want to have a colt python but, for the price, one can purchase several true “must have” guns. I would argue that the Glock 21 and or the Glock 30 is more of a must have than a colt peacemaker, colt python, or a S&W model 629 given their ability to easily convert to 10 mm, 40 super, 45 super, and the all mighty 460 Rowland. I think a 40 caliber Glock would be more of a must have than a straight up 9 mm Glock for the same reason, the ability to shoot, 40 S&W, .357 sig, and 9 mm from the same gun. The Glock 17 is pretty much limited to 9 mm or 22 LR. I will agree with the M1 Garand, the AR15, the AK47, the Remington 870, and the Remington 700. The colt 1911 is a “want to have” is debatable. I have one and wouldn’t give it away but it just sits in a safe. As far as revolvers go, a smith and Wesson .357 magnum is probably more useful, especially if it is of the 7 or 8 shot varieties and concealable. The Ruger Mark series of 22 LR pistols and the Ruger 10/22 are both absolute must have guns IMO. You should have more than one of each in fact.
I like the M1 Garand and M1911A1, but I think the following are better that the remaining pistols:
Mauser KAR 98 or Springfield ‘03 with Moison-Nagant as an alternate.
Winchester or Marlin in 30-30.
Ruger Redhawk in .44 Mag.
Colt or Smith snubbie in .357 Mag.
With a little latitude I have 6 of the 10. My next two planned acquisitions will bump that to 8 of 10. Amazing how much overlap there is between their list and my own personal “list”...
Does a quad-50 count as one or four?
Five of them. Cool.
What about the Ruger Mark III, or the Ruger 10/22, or the CZ75?
No. 4 should be No. 1
You know, a sweet little double barrel shotgun (”coach gun” w/20” barrel), in about 20 gauge, would be a nice Christmas present, and absolute protection, for mama’s out there.
You don’t have to aim, just point and pull the trigger.
I would replace the Garand with an M1A and add a .22 rifle but otherwise, it looks like a fun package to take to the range.
My list:
Ruger 10-22
Browning BL-92 in .357 mag.
Winchester model 52 sporter .22
Remington 700 30-06
Walther PP sport in .22LR
FN FAL .308
Remington 11-87 12 gauge
1911 Colt Series 70 .45
SIG P226
Colt H-bar .223
I have #6, #7 and #8 (although my Glock is a 23) a 10-22 and a Ruger Mark III .22
I need a revolver and an AR of some type
After watching Walking Dead, I want a Python.
2 of 10.
And i have HELD the last one.
But I’m just getting started! LOL!
MY (wish) list would look like this:
1. M1 Garand
2. Kimber or Sig 1911 in 45acp. Alternate: Sig P227 45acp.
3. Ruger 10/22 (.22LR)
4. Ruger Super Single Six .22/.22WMR w/ sp cylinder
5. Sig Sauer MK25 9mm
6. Benelli M4 12
7. Any reputable brand bolt action rifle in .30-06. Why the .30-06? It has so many different loads that are available everywhere. You can light load it with a .17 caliber sabot and take small game or heavy load it up past 220gr for large, even dangerous game.
8. S&W XVR 460 magnum (also fires 45LC, 454 Casull and 460.
9. Winchester M94 in .30-30
10. AR15 5.56mm
