What Makes Us Different? (Vanity?)

I was speaking with Mrs. Hoagy62 this morning about some of the threads I was seeing here on FR. There is a LOT of things being said about defense in the face of tyranny, tactics to be used when going up against tyrannical forces, and general commentary about what one does in certain situations.

One of the things that I found a little disturbing is the thought that one should target families of those who may be in the employ of the government/military/police forces on the opposite side of a possible CWII conflict. I refer to the comment on the "Breaking MRAPS" thread that "Families of operators don't sleep in the MRAP".

Would we, being the 'moral' people that conservatives claim to be, be willing to stoop to levels that we'd expect our enemies to go to? "If Joe Policeman takes up arms against us, we'll blow up his wife and kids! That'll larn'em!".

If that is how we're planning to respond....what makes US any different from THEM?

We tout our respect for human life, respect for the laws of God, and desire to be law-abiding citizens of a free land. However, when you're openly or almost-openly speaking of blowing up your enemy's families...doesn't that go against the very core of what we're about?

Yes....I acknowledge that the forces that might be arrayed against us would be willing to blow away OUR families. Even so...do we want to become LIKE our enemies? Do we want to be as cold and ruthless as they? If we make the claim that we're better then them, would we be?

Would we then be fighting for a lie?

Even though it's a fictional tale, on the show "Babylon 5" when the forces of a Free Earth fought back against the forces of President Clark, Capt. Sheridan made it clear that only those who actually took up arms against them were the ones who would be punished. He went out of his way to make sure that those who weren't involved in the fighting were spared from it as much as was possible.

If the conflict that many are sure is coming actually happens, will we be willing to discard our morals? Will we be willing to use terror and deadly force against families of those we don't agree with?

Do we really want to go there?

Be aware the socialist left already targets your entire extended family, and those who win the war can write the history and be as good as they wish to be.

Well, for one thing, a bit off your question, I don’t really expect conservatives to start the fighting. It’s pretty sure to be like the Revolutionary War, which was started by the Brits firing first, and the Americans fighting back. Then, of course, it went further than merely defensive warfare.

Most of the violent language and ideology comes from the leftists. And almost all the shooting has come from leftists.

Personally, I agree with you. No point in shooting women and children, unless the bad guys are hiding among them like Muslims and you can’t help it. But once a war gets started, there’s no saying how people will act. I’m sure at least a few will be just as undiscriminating as the leftists who start it.

Hopefully it won’t happen. We had major shootings and riots in the black slums back when, and for the most part the response was very restrained. Gradually it died out—no thanks to the press or the race baiters. And for the most part, they burned and robbed their own neighborhoods.

Excellent question. IMHO, we'll lose unless we fight fire with fire. There once was a day when two sides of a conflict could engage in battle using honorable rules of war. Those days ended decades ago.

Right now, we face opponents who are willing to do anything, use any means - to win. Should "that situation" arise, they will use the same tactics. The only way to defeat them is to use the exact same tactics against them - both now and "then."

They count on us taking the honorable path.This is why many in the GOP appear to be wimps. They have never encountered such utter ruthlessness and dishonesty and have no clue how to respond because in their minds, they must take the high ground, the honorable path - which is why they're getting stomped at every turn.

In other words, Alinsky was right. He said that conservatives could easily be defeated because they will not stoop to this level, they will not get down and dirty. They will not be victorious because they have morals and ethics they cannot betray.

But they will not relent and they won't stop. Only if we inflict the same tactics on them will we prevail.

What would you do if U.S. Army General Order No. 11 (1863) was used against you and your family — What lengths would you be willing to go to defend their freedom and safety? Hummm?

The atrocities you describe are one of the things that makes civil war so especially hellish.

The difference between us and them? We are fighting to preserve a way of life better than anything else ever established by mankind. The enemy seeks to destroy it, and are the ones who started the conflict.

Perhaps they just haven't thought it through. Or maybe their ego has overridden what passes for their intellect. Or both.

right on the money.

We wish to preserve a way of life, they seek to destroy it.

When the fighting starts we are at a huge disadvantage, not only is defense a lot tougher, but our way of life did not include wholesale slaughters.

Do you remember Waco? Do you hear the screams of the children as they are burned alive? That was our government. They used helicopters and armored combat vehicles against citizens of the United States. Have you seen Bill or Hillary Clinton or Janet Reno or even one government agent involved in that massacre come out and say they were truly sorry for burning up innocent women and children? Waco was going to be the Democrat’s demonstration to American gun owners of what the government would do to gun owners. It didn’t work....but just barely. It probably would have been OK if just males had been burned up. Nope, after Waco, I know what the Democrats are capable of. They will murder women and children to get their way. So, if they force the fight, then fight to win. Remember Waco.

I reject your entire premise and I have no doubt you have no idea what YOU’RE capable of in battle. This thread is a waste of bandwidth and it disgraces the forum.

What distinguishes us from our domestic enemies is not the tactics we are willing to use but rather our cause. We wish to be free from tyrrany where they wish to enslave us. As Solzhenitsyen found out you either do whatever it takes to fight those who wish to enslave you, or you end up dead or sitting in a work camp wishing you had.

I don’t really follow the reoccurring “CWII” threads but I do see them - along with the many secession threads that appear these days. I recognize that a lot of the commentary is simply blowing off steam and antler sharpening exercises, but I would submit that you (editorial you) will not be prepared to make life or death decisions unless and until you have coldly contemplated them. In an emergency most people freeze up or run away from danger.

I don’t know how likely are the chances our nation might come unraveled but I would be foolish to summarily dismiss it with a “never happen” comment. It could happen and the prudent thing for me to do is have a clue as to how we respond if and when it does.

Specifically to the question of “recognized authority - will they be friend or foe?” I’ve always been plagued with an independent spirit. I don’t do (or NOT do) things because someone tells me to, but because I calculate the risk/benefit a thousand times a day. One of the first lessons I learned was that the guy who is pointing a weapon at you is not likely to be your friend. I’ve dedicated a considerable amount of my life to avoiding situations where I might find people pointing weapons at me. I’ve also reacted with “proportional response” when I needed to.

I doubt that there are any significant numbers of folks here who are sincerely interested in inciting conflict or conflagration - most conservatives that I know just want to lie their lives unmolested. And of the small minority I seriously doubt that they ever do more than flap their jaws.

Zathras has thought on this a great deal.

First: We must get the American People to unite under a limited number of ideals. Asking for Conservative Purity only causes division and fractures Brother against Brother.

Second: We must begin to purge the Political Class from their towers of power. This is going to take generations as it took generations to get them into power.

Third: We must be prepared to move quickly if things go badly. We are fighting powerful forces who are not opposed to genocide to hold onto what they have.
