pretty thin out here, I left actually because while I loved the camaraderie, the military is really a man’s world and I am female and wanted to raise a family, which I did do.

yeah I was just at a seminar yesterday about various kinds of abuse and that is one thing the male presenter indicated is what men say when women criticize them..................you are a typical jerk

Certainly tough to do both, unfortunately. It’s something that my daughter in law struggles with everyday, and that’s in the corporate world, not the military. I admire what both of you do.

You went to a seminar about pussy aches. For some reason, I have no problem believing that.

I work with quite a few civilian DOD people with the various services. My counterpart on my last project made about 60% of what I make on the civilian side. My retirement is self funded and on their side, they fund a portion of it as I recall. That still does not make up for their shortfall on the Government side.

I do know that higher up, in Washington and with the Executive Branch, there are folks that make much more than the DOD people — say 80k to 125k but that is not true from what I have seen for the middle management people on the DOD side. I kind of took a confidential survey of a number of them in 2011 and 2012 to just get a clear understanding.

The military gets about 50% of their base wage if they stay in 20 years.

I retired from the Air Force in 1988, as a Master Sgt. My retirement pay was $761 a month. After COLA increases, it is now $1,400 a month. It makes a dent in the house payment, but does not cover it all, but it is better than nothing.

I understand both sides. After 5 years of Active Duty I put in 11 as a civilian. I left when I realized I was part of the problem and not part of the solution. I was an O-4 US Army. The oath I took is FOREVER. I still have a TA 50 by the bedroom door. I paid for it. I have been “on my own” for almost ten years. Don’t regret a minute. If you work for the gummint you might want to take a minute or two and think about it. Are you part of the solution or part of the problem?

True there’s no constitutional right to post on a private website.

I lurked here for years, finally joined and was a dollar a day donor for years. The entire year before I was laid off I was one of the people that donated $10 for every monthly that started up during that FReepathon and I did that more than once or twice during every FReepathon that year. Not bragging or anything, just sayin’. I had to stop when I was laid off since I’d made more than hubby and it was quite the hit to our budget. I’ve now started sending in a little bit every FReepathon, what we can afford.

Thanks :-)

I’ll happily back every word leapfrog0202 posted to you, EVO X. regarding her participation in our NMD Campaigns.

leapfrog0202 generously sponsored Rounds of NMD’s in a minimum of 5 or more FReepathons and was indeed a loyal $1-a-Day Donor for several years.

FWIW, the idiot government’s term, “non-essential employees” makes a lot of people ask the question, “then why employ them in the first place?”

Shame and blame goes to the government for that horrid term.

God bless and keep you, leapfrog0202.

Sorry the thread got out of hand. I was just trying to be helpful. As a retired state worker I see many of posts that leapfrog0202 was referring to. Have a great day..

Thank you both. EVO X it most certainly isn’t your fault, the thread got out of hand before you joined and I, being very hurt at how so many FReepers feel every gov’t employee is a low life parasite, continued to post against that idea.

You were trying to help but I’ve been so riled up over these types of comments and frightened over the loss of our income until this “shutdown” is settled, that I didn’t see your post in the manner it was meant.

I apologize to you and onyx, thank you. I appreciate your kind words onyx and certainly wish I could do more to help. You and the others are doing a great job running the FReepathon in Jim’s absence.

I resent double dippers, I don’t mind the military one bit however.

Do you resent the system, or the people? For people to avail themselves of a system specifically set up to allow for the separate income streams does not make them nefarious, nor wrong.

“income streams” off of the taxpayers backs

get a real job, quit being part of the problem

the gravy train mentality has got to end

So you believe that a contract for a pension written and agreed to by the US Government as one party should be unilaterally nullified.

Would you think the same if a private employer’s stockholders demanded that the company’s retirees be unilaterally stripped of their pensions?

We disagree on many aspects of your argument. If the first dip is military, I do not have an issue with it. The military is a younger person’s world - so a 20 year threshold makes sense. That is not the same for most (if not all) non-military jobs. Even police do not have the same rigors placed on them as the military.

The double dipping that bothers me are those that have separate state and federal (non-military) pensions running. But those individuals, too, are simply exercising their options under legal contracts.

no smarty pants I am not saying to nullify any contracts. I am saying it should be sufficiently embarrassing for people to park themselves on the taxpayer’s backs that they stop on their own and either start a company or get a job in the private sector. Don’t these parasites have any pride
