The World's 12 Most Dangerous Roads
Adventure is around literally every corner when you take these wild rides
...
In some cases, though, it's more that just topography that makes a road dangerous. Some pass through war-torn countries, others are plagued by bandits and still more of our favorite adventure destinations are just too far North, where the roads are a frozen mess three-quarters of the year and a muddy quagmire the for the rest.
The controlled environments of our vehiclesespecially when contrasted against the unforgiving environments of the great outdoorsall too often give us a false sense of security. These roads are here to remind you that you're never really in control. But that's half of what makes it an adventure.
Join us for a white-knuckle ride on 12 of the world's scariest roads that traverse adventurous destinations from Alaska to Afghanistan. By the time you're done, perhaps you'll consider flying.

Not even the Highway to Hell makes this list.
Trollstigen, Norway. That bus(?) seems to be having a little trouble.
President George Bush Turnpike.
Karakoram Highway, Pakistan
This is beautiful. I would walk this.
With a name like “Death Road”, it HAS to be good...
MLK Blvd.
The Surekill Expressway, Philadelphia.
Million dollar highway is breathtaking but not that scary, IMHO.
“Not even the Highway to Hell makes this list.”
Probably because it’s a 12-lane expressway.
Geesh, it looks like the road from the sea up the mountain in Kotor, Montenegro.....and the hairpin turns came almost as quickly as the bus could straighten out......some buses had to try twice to make some of the turns.
“Pray for me I drive on US19” A popular bumper sticker around Pinellas and Pasco counties here in FL. Also the stretch of I-75 between Land o Lakes and Brandon that’s been under perpetual reconstruction ever since it was built, or as they said about the parkways and expressways in NYC many yrs ago, complete and obsolete.
They forgot the road from the White House to the Capitol.
State Route 261 is a state highway located entirely within south-central San Juan County, Utah. It runs 34 miles (55 km) north, from the junction of U.S. Route 163 (3 miles (4.8 km) north of Mexican Hat), to the junction with State Route 95, just east of Natural Bridges National Monument.
The highway is part of the Utah section of the Trail of the Ancients, a National Scenic Byway.[2] It includes steep switchbacks as it traverses the Moki Dugway.
I wasn’t crazy about coming down from the Big Horns into Sheridan, WY via Route 14 in the dark. It took my wife a few minutes to pry my hands off of the steering wheel when we pulled into the parking lot of our hotel.
Or any path between John Kerry and a TV camera.
I’ve driven the Million Dollar Highway many times. It’s fine as long as you don’t drive too fast for conditions. But if you do, the consequences are severe.
Medeiros has one of those type roads. The tour bus drivers are insane. Prayers must work; I have no idea how else those busses stay on that road.
LOL. Which MLK Boulevard? The one in Los Angeles or all of them?
