“...must be in prepackaged factory bottles with a tamper-proof dispensing nozzle and labeling in line with EU industrial standards.”

Wow. That’ll really bring ambiance to the dining experience!

Maybe they could substitute potentially lethal metal forks and knifes with plastic sporks while they’re at it.

I do a lot of traveling, am just about as serious an ‘amateur’ chef as you’ll find, and maintain that anyone on a remotely reasonable budget who visits Italy or France (especially Paris, especially Rome) “for the food” is better off staying home.

You’re worried about olive oil? Worry about the fact European producers have been mixing it with Sunflower and even petroleum oil for decades. Stay away from Italian olive oil unless you know exactly where it’s from (or your vendor does.) I buy Israeli olive oil.

I was at an academic awards banquet Tuesday night held at our local High School. The Superintendent of the Schools made an announcement to the gathered host that they could not serve people salt in the School because it was against the law.

No, I am not kidding.

Popeye: (bangs table) “SERVICE!”
Olive Oyl: “Yeah, service. That’s what we want!”

Maitre de Bluto: “Sorry, monsewer. We may no longer serve your skinny girlfriend.”

Here we go again.
“THEY” pass a law to ‘protect’ us BUT allow anyone that would take advantage of the ‘bad’ usage of containers ANOTHER 6 months to create a problem that hasn’t been there BUT might just happen.

I had the radio on and heard ‘them’ talking about NY and NJ trying to raise the age for cigarettes from 18-21.
The news reader then said ‘They were going to do this in Texas but figured they would lose too much tax money’.

At least the POLS used to try mask the stupidity and absurdity of the idiotic ‘laws’.

Restaurants would have small bottles of Olive oil and vinegar for their diner’s salad. This gave the diner control on how much tartness he wanted his salad dressing of oil and vinegar. The EU is messing with a tradition the diners will resent. I hope the backlash from this dictate leaves the EU with egg on their faces.

Q: What do you get when you mix 15 parts ammonium nitrate to one part olive oil?

A: Carbon-neutral ANFO.

"The European Commissions justification for the ban...is "hygiene" and to protect the "image of olive oil" with a measure that will benefit struggling industrial producers in Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal."

Anybody who believes that's the real reason is a moron.

Did they amend the EU Constitution for this?

Decadent Europeans LOVE GOVERNMENT and MICROMANAGEMENT and REGULATIONS.

They HATE liberty.

Thanks Olog-hai.
The European Commissions justification for the ban, under special Common Agriculture Policy regulations, is "hygiene" and to protect the "image of olive oil" with a measure that will benefit struggling industrial producers in Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal.
...and will instead result in a benefit to lower-cost producers outside Europe, which is the unwritten intent. What's next, single-serving bottles of wine? That's part of the fight against communicable disease.

People running the EU are totally nuts, just like the Obama administration in the US! ....England is about to bail out of the EU and other countries there should do so as well, because the EU has failed in so many ways and driven member countries into financial ruin with ridiculous regulations from a bunch of stupid people in Brussels.
