TSA Calls it “Voluntarily Abandoned Property”

It’s almost a cruel play on words.

You go to the airport and bring that which you know you’ll need for the trip. Transportation Security Administration employees rifle though your bags and find that bottle of shampoo that was a little too big or the can of deodorant that had a few too many ounces. They tell you that certain items in your possession cannot be taken on board the flight and you have to leave them behind.

The name they have for those goods is a hoot: “Voluntarily Abandoned Property.” …

It was my “property”, but after I “voluntarily abandon” it, where exactly does it go? Well, according to TSA Management Directive No. 200.52:

VAP deposited in collection bins shall not be recovered by, and will not be returned to, passengers. Upon voluntary abandonment of the prohibited item, the item immediately becomes the property of the Federal Government.

They took my daughter’s insulin without her knowledge before a trans-Atlantic flight. Pilot had to radio NY to get permission to use the emergency supply on board.

My lawyer and I would still be fishing in the Gulf of Mexico if they did that to my daughter.

They need to feel the pain when they risk lives.

I would open that too-large bottle of shampoo and spray it all over those benighted bastards! And God help them if they tried to pat down my wife or daughter!

The last time I flew, and it was the last time, my wife brought some very expensive hand lotion. It was an 8 oz bottle but she made sure it was less than half full. We made to our destination. But on the return flight she was told she couldn’t bring it on board because it was in a bottle that was too big.

But, to show how stupid they are, they sell little packages of 4 4-oz bottles. So, you can take 16 oz on board but not all in the same bottle.

My daughter’s first ever boyfriend bought her some expensive (for a teen) lotion and perfume in a cute little carrying case. It was, maybe,1 oz to big. The women wanted to take it but my daughter took both containers and threw them in the garbage and walked off teary eyed. Not a big deal but I think the TSA chick just wanted to steal it. She probably took it out of the garbage after we left.

I had a business trip I couldn't get out of. I have a colostomy and a massive hernia at the site, so it's very obvious. I was escorted into a private room where a TSA agent tried to get me to remove my colostomy pouch. Since I use a 2 piece pouch, I "burped" it for him and that convinced him he didn't want me to empty it for him then and there. I didn't mention that I had deodorant spray with me, so I left that room REALLY stinking.

I found out later that there's a TSA regulation that PROHIBITS TSA agents from demanding the removal of a medical appliance (like a colostomy pouch) or an prosthetic, and if I ever fly again, I'll be printing it out and carrying it with me to present to the agents.

Re: TSA goons trying to steal property using their authority.

The late General Joe Foss was flying to a US Marine function. He had his Congressional Medal of Honor with him, and one of the TSA goons told him he would have to surrender it. Well, there were other marines waiting in line to go through security, and they nearly caused a riot!

Eventually, they decided that the General’s medal wasn’t that big a threat and allowed him to board the plane.

Where’s the “just compensation”?

Where are the banks of coin-op lockers, like bus & train stations used to have?

Wait are you talking about Post Security check by TSA Goobers? You know the ones who have failed several times in the last few months when Fake Bombs were purposely planted in Carry-ons to see if the TSA Goobers could detect such.

Like I said, too easy to plant bombs in them. And in there they would harm the Union TSA workers so they aren't gonna allow that. hehehe

The TSA is the biggest money-sucking boondoggle in the US government, far ahead of the BATFE - and that’s saying something.

Now that gave me a smile I'll have for the next two days. I would be willing to bet large cash, that those Gyrenes would have pounded the holy crap out of the TSA flunky, field stripped any firearm he was carrying and politely start cramming the parts into pockets. I doubt any of the TSA Gestapo had any idea who Joe Foss is. I knew who he was when I was in the Third Grade.

The stories of the old 1st Marine Division reunions, when Col. Puller would speak and the WWII guys were still around their prime, are legendary. Think utterly destroyed meeting rooms. I had a old time Master Gunny with way more time on the sh*tter than I had in the Corps, shoot Chesty Puller stories all the time. They don't make people like that any more and we are the worse for it.
