There was a 5.0-6.0 seismic event in Siberia a day or two ago.

Be glad your media is not covering this.

They would be blaming global warming.

Off... Rust was intercepted several times. They ‘ve seen a kid in a cockpit and flew away thinking of it as a kind of provocation (KAL007 event was only a few years earlier).

Updated information at the RT website includes photos, and video of the meteorite impact. Updates indicate at least 3 debris locations/damage locations, and estimates are growing as to the number of injured. As of posting indications are as many as 500 people injured.

Not sure why this doesn't qualify as “News”... It's not a UFO, and it's not like this isn't being reported across the globe at this point...

Here's the original link again with the updated title;
Meteorite hits Russian Urals: Fireball explosion wreaks havoc, up to 500 injured (Photos, VIDEO)

Admin Mod - perhaps you could add the correct link, and delete the one video link that isn't related or something?

Yes. On a timescale of hours, they failed miserably. Rust's successful stunt enabled Gorby to sack the Old Guard in the Soviet military.

Of course, this meteor's timescale was way faster than hours. They never even knew it was coming. It was over after they photograhed it but before they knew what it was. They were gazing skyward bemused when the shockwave arrived, at which time, they were truly amazed.

There was a much bigger example of similar in 1908, 1500 miles to the east, in Tunguska. It had an estimated explosive yield in the tens of megatons. There would have been a lot fewer Youtube uploads if anything like it had hit Chelyabinsk.

What’s puzzling to me is how many here are thinking this is a hoax. I’m praying for those 500+ injured at this point, and praying nothing decides to break off the “big one” that isn’t here yet. It amazes me how many think this is no big deal. The big rock is passing inside our satellite orbits. What about a debris field? It doesn’t take something huge to cause a serious problem when it comes in at tens of thousands of mph.

You’re welcome.

Weather.com had a photo of a large hole in the ice covering a lake. Reporters said that is where the meteorite ended its trip. How bizarre!

I’ve just added a pile of similar topics to the catastrophism keyword and the russia keyword and (where possible) topic, because I’m not where I can easily ping. :’) Some whackjob over there claimed that the event was the result of US weapons testing.

Thanks ConservativeMan55, and for the pings to the other topics, thanks Ernest, GeronL, gleeaikin, SatinDoll, and moose07. Here's a link from today's APoD:
Videos & Discussion: Russian Meteor Explosion
and here are the rest of the Russian meteor stories (that I've found so far): and the topic about the asteroid we knew about somewhat in advance, could be from the same debris stream, but maybe not:
