Thousands of homes throughout Anne Arundel County are without electricity Thursday night after unexplained blue and green lights filled the skyline just before 9 p.m.The outages seem to be concentrated in the greater Annapolis region, and the lights flickered in other communities including Severn, Odenton, Crofton and Bowie. "We have no working incidents right now," said Lt. Keith Hamilton of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Firefighters and paramedics are responding to multiple alarms from Crownsville and Annapolis though, Hamilton said. "I've never seen anything like this complete loss of power," said Annapiols Mayor Josh Cohen. In the video shot by Edgewater resident Gus Baganz from a home overlooking the South River, residents react in shock as the blue and green lights filled the sky for about 30 seconds.

Nearly 50,000 now without power

OK, so when the power went off we saw something I've never seen before

the sky did not flash, light lightning or something blowing up, it just diffused with colors that changed from one spectrum to another, like northern lights

Intense blues of different shades, green, purple, if there was red I was too shocked to notice. The diffuse from one color to another was a fade, then brighten, not a flash

the house power came up weakly as the sky brightened, then everything went black after about a 2 minute light show

I told the kids it seemed like a solar flare, like northern lights, but it affected the electric power

power back on now and super juiced, but the kids are afraid and are sleeping in the family room tonight..me too! LOL

If this had to happen I wish it didn't happen on this date!
