Thousands of homes throughout Anne Arundel County are without electricity Thursday night after unexplained blue and green lights filled the skyline just before 9 p.m.The outages seem to be concentrated in the greater Annapolis region, and the lights flickered in other communities including Severn, Odenton, Crofton and Bowie. "We have no working incidents right now," said Lt. Keith Hamilton of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Firefighters and paramedics are responding to multiple alarms from Crownsville and Annapolis though, Hamilton said. "I've never seen anything like this complete loss of power," said Annapiols Mayor Josh Cohen. In the video shot by Edgewater resident Gus Baganz from a home overlooking the South River, residents react in shock as the blue and green lights filled the sky for about 30 seconds.

Same thing happened in my home town a couple of years ago - MASSIVE flash that lit up the sky. Took ‘em 4-5 days to get back on-line. But, that was ‘cuz the gear had already been sceduled to be replaced with a newer system.

Instead of replacing with existing systems, they had the newer system trucked in, and replaced the equipment a year ahead of schedule.

WASHINGTON - A power outage in Anne Arundel County, including the Annapolis Mall, caused confusion Thursday night and left more than 46,000 people in the dark.

“Baltimore Gas and Electric tells WTOP that “two main feeders into Annapolis” are down and crews are on the way. The cause is not yet confirmed.

Some reports have said there is a fire surrounding the outage, by BGE hasn’t confirmed any such report and Anne Arundel Fire said they haven’t received any calls from BGE regarding a fire.”
