This last year has lead me to seriously consider relocating our family to another state. A state whose public representatives hold a healthy respect and regard for our Constitution. A state which welcomes entrepreneurs, small and big business, and industry. A state in which citizens-generally-don't apologizes for being Americans.
I had considered Wyoming within the past few months, but Texas has always sat in my periphery. And now the Lone Star state sits front and center.
We currently reside in a state in which our representatives actively engages in legal plunder of our tax dollars, despises the Constitution, and is enamored with dictators and tyrants.
I am seeking any information concerning conservative areas, cities, and counties in the great state of Texas. The Hill Country looks appealing. Your comments and recommendations are deeply appreciated.
TJI
Come to Maine.
Gov LePage: “Maine’s now OPEN for business”
I moved to Texas last October after living my whole life in So. California.
I could not be happier. The weather is a bit more extreme but it is tolerable.
The people are great, the housing prices are amazing, the unemployment is low, no income taxes, reasonable property taxes, CONSERVATIVES all around.
What’s not to like?
I settled in North Irving because I wanted to be near the airport since I travel 40+ weeks a year.
If you want to feel hot as an oven six months of the year, come to Texas. If you want to freeze six months of the year, go to Wyoming. Alaska is also a good choice if you don’t mind extreme weather.
Don’t know where you are now, but you really should visit Texas in August before you make up your mind.
We’ve actually got plenty of conservatives here, getting a little too full of people for my taste. We’ll treat you well and welcome you as a brother, but you might serve your country better to fight the good fight where you are.
Keep in mind that Austin is the liberal encampment in Texas...
We moved from California to Texas in 2004. Not regretting it one bit!!!!
“We currently reside in a state in which our representatives actively engages in legal plunder of our tax dollars, despises the Constitution, and is enamored with dictators and tyrants.”
So, California?
What do you want to know about Texas? (Also, ignore anything dragnet2 says about the place.)
We are looking at the Tyler area.
You should have just suggested he settle in the Panhandle.
That way he can freeze and swelter and get hailed on, sand-stormed, sleeted, snowed-in, and blown away by a tornado, probably all in a week’s time.
We don’t wish to “give up ground”, but the economy, regulations, and taxes has devastated our family. My inquiry is motivated by the desire to protect and provide for our family.
Then come on down. Those are indeed Texas values!
Houston has more opportunity than any other part of Texas - generally. Where you should look depends on the particulars of your career interests, etc. Texas, though, isn’t for sissies. The climate isn’t San Diego.
I’d like to see conservatives from other states move to Austin to make the place unbearable for the liberals there. Perhaps the liberals might decide to leave for SF or NYC.
Welcome to TEXAS! All are welcome here to visit, or legally reside.
If you drove from the Louisiana/Texas border to Los Angeles, when you get half way there, you would still be in Texas.
Take your time, visit, and enjoy.
Texas is really 5 distinct States, with The Hill Country being the center.
Contact on the web, or by snail mail the various State agencies for information. Texas has Welcome Buildings at its borders along Major Highways.
Property taxes are high, but no Corporate or income tax.
If you are not a fan of local high school football, then, well - - - I guess there are folks like that - - - ?
LOL!
You guys are a hoot!
As mentioned, if I could get 10 million to move your way by morning, I’d do it....
Now, feel free to return to begging people to come to Texas.
Be my guest!
Texas is not where you were born but a State of Mind, Heart and Attitude. (from a native who had an ancestor who was born in TX during the Republic)
Lefties exist but are in isolated pockets, primarily near Austin. A few in Dallas & Houston. Most of the rest of the state is free of that disease.
This the Hill Country generally conservative in social/political landscape? What towns, cities, areas within the Hill Country would you recommend, if any?
To all Freepers: The climate in our current location is anything but mild. Extreme summers, extreme winters.
GTT
If you don't like the weather there, wait 15 minutes and it will change. hee hee hee
Great people for neighbors.
It depends on what type of work you do. Construction will be better in DFW and Houston areas. Hill country is liberal center of the TX universe. Cost of housing will have some consideration and then commuting. Got kids?
