Lots of those problems went away when they changed powder types to what Gene Stoner recommended. The Army hated Gen. LeMay's plastic rifle, and tried to undermine it.
It has done well over the years. I don't have to have eyes to be able to strip one and put it back together.
Not as well as the AK, but Kalashnikov was a special designer, in the catagory of John Moses Browning.

I can do it with my AR, but don’t need to. Since I installed the Osprey Defense piston system it runs 5000 rounds without needin’g cleaning, and then it’s mostly carb cleaner to the piston cup and piston, with a CLP wipe down of the bolt and carrier then back into action!

I can field strip and assemble the M-16 blind folded. ;-)That was a requirement to pass boot camp in '74. I remember it was a timed test.

The correct answer for 'what to do in a jam' is throw it down and grab a more reliable weapon like an AK47 from some dead haji.
Two jams requiring remedial action, within minutes of each other, while pinned down and cutoff in the street. Just as bad, CONSISTENTLY having to shoot the same s4!th3@ds several times. Damn I hate the POS M16 and 5.56 aka varmint ammo.

Does anyone remember the comic books put out by the Navy and given away at the Post Office? I use to wait for every issue. They were a bit like “Classic Comics” in that they taught real history in an easy to read format.
Very entertaining and they would even admit mistakes the Navy had made over the years.

Mikhail Kalashnikov is still alive and kicking. The guy is 92, I think.

Comparing Kalashnikov to John M. Browning is ridiculous. Kalashnikov didn’t invent anything. The soviets ripped off Hugo Schmeisser’s design of the MP43(Schmeisser was held prisoner in the same factory where Kalashnikov worked after the war) and gave the credit to a wrench monkey named Kalashnikov for propaganda purposes. Flame away, but it’s true, and you can’t change the truth.
