Women choose bad boys because their hormones make them, new research suggests. When ovulating a woman's hormones influence who she sees as good potential fathers, and they specifically pick sexier men over obviously more dependable men.
"Previous research has shown in the week near ovulation women become attracted to sexy, rebellious and handsome men like George Clooney or James Bond," study researcher Kristina Durante, of The University of Texas at San Antonio, said in a statement. "But until now it was unclear why women would ever think it's wise to pursue long-term relationships with these kinds of men."
The study was published today, May 14, in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
The researchers had women view online dating profiles of either a sexy man or a reliable man during periods of both high and low fertility. Participants were asked to indicate the expected paternal contribution from the men if they had a child together based on how helpful the man would be caring for the baby, shopping for food, cooking and contributing to household chores. Near ovulation women thought that the sexy man would contribute more to these domestic duties.
"Under the hormonal influence of ovulation, women delude themselves into thinking that the sexy bad boys will become devoted partners and better dads," Durante said. "When looking at the sexy cad through ovulation goggles, Mr. Wrong looked exactly like Mr. Right."
The researchers followed up that find with a second study in which women interacted directly with male actors who played the roles of sexy cad and reliable dad once during ovulation and again at low fertility. Again, ovulating women thought that the sexy cad — but not the reliable dad — would contribute more to childcare, but only as her partner

As a male I have seen it(as in dating) women who have tat's/piercings. Let's say there is no comparison. More open to try anything..lot more open, outgoing, carefree, let's leave it at that.

Most women make poor choices when it comes to men.
There was a show about that a few days ago. Women were shown photos of men while ovulating and they picked the masculine/testostorine square jawed guy and while not ovulating picked the more nerdy looking but stable looking guy.
It's like the old saying "The bank won't give you a loan until you prove to them that you don't need one".
Women are most attracted to men who display an attitude of "If you won't sleep with me, that's fine, I was getting tired out from all the other girls anyway".
W/women it’s the opposite. I like librarians and artists.

Women, and people in general, have had the same brains since the days when we literaly lived like animals - hunting, gathering and breeding in small clumps/clans. Female sexuality is very complex and it makes even less sense in today’s modern world.
Most human females are naturally attracted to males that are different from themselves and somewhat outside their own social norms. Males that take them out of their comfort zone. It is the way nature selects for diversity in female mating patterns. In males, this is accomplished by simply encouraging mating with more females. That is not possible in females because they can only genetically mate with one male at a time.
This is why you commonly see the “nice girls loving bad boys” and “opposites attract” thing. Females that had this inclination in prehistoric times increased the genetic diversity of their offspring and had a genetic line that was more likely to survive to today. It was also common for females to run off and secretly mate with “badboys” while having a nice, practical provider in their own clan for the future badboy offspring.
Females that mated with the “nice” guys among their own clan that were similar to themselves were most likely mating with a relative. A genetic line with little diversity was susceptible to disease and defects so fewer of those genes survived.
The survival of our species depended on many instincts and subconscious thoughts that seem completely out of place in today’s completely different world. The survival of a species also does always consider the happiness of individuals. Many animals suffer their entire lives because of their own instinctual drives that are necessary for the species as a whole...

The problem with this study is taht it is probably funding by tax payer dollars, when 20 minutes a night in any popular bar would do the same thing and at 1/10 the cost.
It might be a “new study” but it’s old news.
Guys who think women are the same creatures from week to week, or even moment to moment, haven’t been paying much attention.
Guys who care a whole heck of a lot what a woman thinks of them are in for a very unpleasant roller coaster ride.

I wonder how scientists define sexy or handsome men in strictly material terms. IOW, what is beauty in terms of matter in motion?
My experience is that they will either assume the existence of beauty without consideration, they will dismiss the question with some hand-waving, or they will be unable to understand the question.

Baloney. Liberals love blaming every bad behaviour on biology. Women choose to have relationships with “bad boys” because they don’t like themselves very much, and were raised either without a close relationship with their fathers, or with an unhealthy relationship with their fathers.
I don’t know about that... I think my Wife made an excellent choice. She got her “bad boy” who has never let her down in the “Father to my children” department.
I once asked a woman why she was then in her third relationship with a physically abusive lout. Her answer: “Because they’re so exciting!” I rest my case.
Uumm no. As other have said these guys are just more fun.
That is EXACTLY why when my teenage daughters want to wear a Bikini I tell them just to put on thier Bras and panties and wear them around and out to the pool and I will gladly go get them Bikini’s to wear around the pool.

Nope. You just have to grow up, get beyond appearances, and look for a complementary mate. Working on being able to love unconditionally helps.

I’ve thought that women’s hormonal shifts offer them at least the opportunity to be aware of what their hormones are doing to their minds, and to take that into account in regulating their behavior and making decisions. Not that all women are aware, or that the ones who are aware, make the extra effort.
Men, OTOH, without the same degree of fluctuation, might find it easier to deny that they are under the influence of their hormones.

Women will show in public what they won’t show at home. Go figure. My girlfriend was very reluctant to wear her bikini inside the house. Something about when she was at the beach, male attention was diffused among all the other women present, but at home she assumed my eyes were constantly glued to her (she was right).

Totally irrational and bassackwards. One would think that in contemplating children a rational woman would want a man who exhibits stability (they CAN still be sexy).
They do want to stable, nice guy to RAISE the child but want the bad /masculine./test filled guy as the gene carrier.
