Pride And Prejudice

May 29, 2012

Back in the 1930s, my childhood home was loving and happy, but my parents were often away. On those occasions, the center of warmth in our home was the kitchen and our tiny, joyous housekeeper named Annie.

I spent many hours with Annie, sitting at our kitchen table reading books or playing with toys and listening to her sing and hum spirituals and hymns. From her heart sprang a continual flow of wisdom, cheerfulness, and song.

One morning, with childish exuberance, I used a racial slur I had heard. “Oh my, no,” she said, and then proceeded to pour out her heart in a gentle lecture on the harm and hurt in that, accompanied by a terrible sadness in her eyes. I never used that word again.

I learned that we cause unfathomable sorrow when we dishonor and debase others through bigotry. Every human being is created in the image of God—more like God than any other creature and worthy of honor. To demean that image is to wound another human being at the deepest level.

There is but one race: the human race. God “has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth” (Acts 17:26). We are of the same family, made to be treasured and cherished by one another.

Of all creation’s treasures rare,
Not one compares in worth with man,
In God’s own image he was made
To fill a place in His great plan. —D. De Haan
God desires that we show respect to all people, because everyone bears His image.

Read: Acts 17:22–31

He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth. —Acts 17:26
Bible in a Year:
Psalms 13-15

Life is a learning from beginning to end. We get to teach others as we go, that is how it works. Everyone in their turn learns and passes it on. This is the work of the disciples, to teach to others the whole story of Jesus of Nazareth., His life, birth, ministry, miracles, death resurrection and his message of forgiveness of sin, hope, love, and to come the message given to John in his Revelation. ... life eternal in Heaven, in the presence of the Father, and the Lamb, having the healing leaves of the trees of life. The new heaven, and the new earth, and the Lamb's wife, a new Jerusalem. A new paradise. Be not fearful, be not unbelieving, do nothing abominable.
BE OVERCOMERS.

“AND BEHOLD I COME QUICKLY AND MY REWARD IS WITH ME, TO GIVE TO EVERY MAN ACCORDING TO HIS WORK SHALL BE. I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA, THE BEGINNING AND THE END,THE FIRST AND THE LAST. Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they might have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city."

Revelation 22;12-14

It seems that I posted on the December Thread .... what happened? Grumble, grumble, gripe, complain. It must be Open Mic Tuesday. :)

Is FR messing up today or is it just me? I had to reboot this morning ... guess that I paid little or no attention to what I was doing.

HAPPY TUESDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

W. Eugene Smith - The Walk to Paradise Garden

You Are The New Day – The King’s Singers
(Click)

May You Approach Each New Day With The Innocence, The Sense Of Wonder And The Optimism Of These Two Children!
There is a story behind this picture:

Always known as a photographer who would take almost any chance if it meant getting the picture, Gene Smith’s good luck throughout the Pacific deserted him on May 23, 1945. While on the east coast of Okinawa photographing an essay titled "A Day in the Life of a Front Line Soldier," he was seriously wounded by a Japanese shell fragment. The missile hit him in the head cutting both cheeks, injuring his tongue and knocking out several teeth. Characteristically, he was taking pictures at the time and the fragment passed through his left hand before entering his cheek just below the eye and near the nose. His comment in the hospital later: "I forgot to duck but I got a wonderful shot of those who did... my policy of standing up when the others are down finally caught up with me."

Ernie Pyle, another great war correspondent, who was on Okinawa with Smith and was not so lucky, wrote of him, "Gene Smith is an idealist, trying to do great good with his work but it will either break him or kill him."

Smith’s war wounds cost him two painful years of hospitalization and plastic surgery. During these years he took no pictures and whether he would ever be able to return to photography was doubtful. Then one day, during his period of convalescence, Smith took a walk with his two children and even though it was still intensely painful for him to operate a camera, came back with one of the most famous photographs of all time: "A Walk to Paradise Garden." This memorable image was to serve as the final picture in the famous "Family of Man" Exhibition.

Nos genuflectitur ad non princeps sed Princeps Pacem!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

I’m so confused...don’t know if it’s December or May.

Must be May... I’m wearing shorts and t-shirt. ;^)

Linda’s co-workers are throwing a retirement party for her tomorrow afternoon. Our family will join her at the party.
