On Sundays Face the Nation on CBS, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum explained that his view of the Trayvon Martin shooting differed significantly from the one held by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Gingrich was critical of President Barack Obamas reaction, but Santorum placed the blame on accused shooter George Zimmermans mental state.
Well, you know, obviously, Im not privy to whats going on in someones mind, Santorum said. Obviously, in my opinion, someone
has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this. This is clearly a heinous act. You know, there are a lot of people who have a lot of distorted views of reality. Its a tragic, tragic case. And my heart goes out to the parents, too. I cant imagine what theyre suffering, losing their son in such a horrific way. All I would say is that, whatever the motive is, it was a malicious one, and a very, very tragic one.

Santorum is doing everything he can to give the nomination to Romney; there is no longer any reasonable question.
Santorum has the sick mind. He joined Obama in deciding Zimmerman is guilty before all the facts are known.
Damn it Rick. Can’t you just shut up until the facts are in?
But will his backers care?
Probably not.
Nah, they are voting for who quotes scripture best, not who is the most conservative or most likely to win a general election. Santorum voters are the same demographic that cast ballots for non conservatives like Mike Huckabee, and obviously bad candidates like Pat Robertson.
Telepathetic.
I supported Rick until these comments. Rick STFU.
It is a simple formula: THINK and THEN (maybe) speak. Never speak first. Why is that so hard for some politicians to understand?
Santorum hasn’t got the sense to know when to shut up. He may be a conservative, but he is definitely not Presidental material.
Mr. niteowl77
Rick, if I was George, I would sue your ignornant, stupid A$$ to kingdom come.
Shut the **** up, jerk.
When Rick was on Hannity on the radio I thought he mis-spoke, but with this stupid rant on Sunday TV, I will not vote for Rick when the PA primary gets here in April.
This pandering pussy, will win no votes from the left, and will only alienate clear thinking people that want to know the facts before judgment is rendered.
Will Rick kick in some of the reward money to help out the black panthers with their $10,000 Dead or Alive poster?
Hey Rick, ESAD.
So you wouldn't see Rick in bed with Mitt.
He’s a follower, not a leader. In PA, the unions told him to vote against right-to-work, and he said OK. In the Senate leadership, he was told to vote for No Child Left Behind & go along with an insane fiscal policy, and he said OK. He does have convictions - genuine, heartfelt convictions (unlike Romney) - but outside of certain social issues such as abortion, he doesn’t seem to have the courage of his convictions.
Which isn’t to say he’s a bad guy. Just a kinda average, uninspiring guy. Still prefer him over Romney, because the later is a snake, who (like Obama) seems to lust for power for its own sake.
Ya can count on the Black vote now, for sure, Rick.
A fool because he thinks this will buy him Black votes
Untrustworthy because he speaks without having the facts and says anything he thinks will get him elected.
Church ladies don’t care what Santorum does. He is their man.
I am really disappointed in Rick.
Sadly, he is destroying his own campaign. Nobody else is doing it for him.
Looks to me like he’s intentionally doing a mini McCain and killing his own campaign.
Disappointing.
Toast... just another moron that resolves his mind without the benefit of the facts just to pander to africans.
well this does it for me, another dumbass. where do we get these losers?
This is why I have always worried about Santorum. While his views are generally conservative, he is easily manipulated. Jedi Mind Tricks work easily on this one. Newt, not so much, as demonstrated by this episode. Newt’s reaction is spot on.
But when a white guy kills a black youth in a hoodie everyone in America seems to think that there is some kind of white on black crime epidemic that is suggestive that every white male heterosexual man is a hate filled racist.
This kind of incident occurs once in a blue moon. But blacks killing whites for no apparent reason happens every single day in this country.
I have noted over the yrs when some racially tinged kerfuffle (often ginned up) occurs subsequent sober investigations reveal facts which markedly diverge from the histrionics deployed by the race agitators and media conflict mongers.
And then it quietly all fades away in back pages and via hushed, hurried follow-up news references; I predict more of the same here. Meanwhile the damage is already done, and perhaps that’s part of the strategy of the play, anyway...sick and subversive world we live in right now.
I have the same feeling that I had when Herman Cain went after Rick Perry over the “N-head” rock. See ya, Rick.
I’ll say it again...
Santorum is not ready for prime time. He does not have the wisdom or deliberate thought to be President.
How much could I charge the Santorum campaign to instruct them to KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.
Flaming stupid, stupid. Just say “no comment” like all the other cognoscenti. In this case, “no comment” isn’t the PC comment, it is the absolutely correct comment. “Let the justice system work” would be the correct conservative comment. This jumping the shark is walking right into an elementary trap. Really, really dumb.
The Grand Jury is slated for April. Think I’ll wait and hear what they have to say. Sure beats allowing emotion to do my thinking for me.
Santorum/Sharpton 2012
As one of the “sub-memes” of the entire “Trayvon-Zimmerman” affair is the implication for gun-owners’ rights — to include not only the right to keep and bear arms, but also the right to use them in self-defense — the deeper implications of this egregiously ill-advised statement by Santorum are those that give me a queasy feeling that — when the chips are down and the MSM is up in a frenzy — Rick Santorum simply CANNOT be trusted to stand for the validity or meaning of the Second Amendment.
Of course, I do not have a great feeling of confidence in either Romney or Gingrich in this area, either..... let alone Obama.
Ergo: Americans who believe the Second Amendment is a fundamental underpinning of the American Republic are without a “horse” in this race.
That said, I will vote for whoever wins the Republican nomination, as I will take a “natural born” loser over an “ineligible” loser — any day.
However, that means our choices at the local, state, and Congressional levels will hold grave implications for the way that the Second Amendment will be either respected or repudiated by whoever wins in 2012.
Saint Rick is a real pain in the neck. he needs to go away.
Earlier today, on another thread, I stated my intention to vote for Rick in NJ as the only viable alternative to Romney. I nearby withdraw that remark.
I’m going to vote for Newt, regardless of electability.
At this point voting for Santorum is the moral equivalent of voting for Willard.
All the Republican candidates are jumping in condemn Zimmerman without knowing all the facts- and all the while it’s looking more and more like another case of a ‘whitey beat down’, but one that didn’t pan out quite like the perp intended.
Is this why Santorum thinks it would be better to have Barack Obama still be president rather than Romney? Because he doesn’t realize we have a black nationalist, anti-colonialist, multi-culturalist, radical progressive marxist in the White House? Is the guy so caught up in himself to not realize the danger our country is in?
So much for “innocent until proven guilty”; and if Santorum actually said this SHAME ON HIM!
You are correct. There is NO WAY that I will back down from my support of Santorum. Rick and I are two different people, but I don’t see why anyone would pursue someone whom was NOT seen committing a crime. The national reaction is over the top. The people of his Fla. county should decide the case. Bob
To think we could have had Newt. Ugh, Santorum or Romney. Is this really happening again?
Oh boy, Santorum is my guy but in this case, to borrow a phrase from our Dear Leader, he acted stupidly. Jumping into something with emotion, rather than waiting until all the facts are in, says a lot about his decision making abilities.
I think this makes it clear why Newt remains in the race. Romney’s support continues to weaken and “Eddie Haskell” has already started to self-destruct.
Zimmerman was the neighborhood watch captain. He was doing the job what he volunteered for. For Santorum to spout off like he has over what happened, is crazy!
IDIOT!! Does he really think that we can’t see through him?He is pandering to the press so that they don’t pick on him.
This reminds me of the Duke Lacross rape case.
“Hes a herd following idiot.”
...that’s exactly right! It scares him to get involved in controversy. He’s a weakling. We already had dat.
That’s it, I’m done with anyone in the GOP field running for President. I will not be voting for any of them this year.
Well at least I'm done...With Santorum...He's not qualified to be my President...
