Okay East Coast Freepers, start getting it together now as Hurricane Irene is coming.

Looks like from all the models that most of the East Coast will be under the gun in a few days from Hurricane Irene, so now is the time to start stocking up on water, ammo, canned food, toilet paper, gas and even an emergency generator. I live outside of Washington D.C. and remember the last time that T.S. Isabel hit, it took over 2 weeks to get the power back on and the panic that that caused. I also went down to New Orleans after Katrina and saw that first hand, so don't wait start stocking up now.

Here in Florida we learn to not panic just take the necessary precautions and prepare to help ourselves and neighbors if necessary.

I've had a half dozen go over us or up one side or the other...we have never had big damage but we also know not to underestimate the danger that can come from these storms...especially since they have the tendency to strengthen and become unpredictable.

Well Hurricane David came up the bay back in 1979, but was a small compact Cat 1, that did very little damage at the time.

I would pay to see that as by Thursday Night, they will have the city in a near panic and you won’t be able to get a thing. The News Poodles live for this type of stuff.

Buying a Heavy duty generator for my home right now as I am a dialysis patient, who does treatment at home. Yes gas and water are impossible to find after these thing pass. I tell my friends to head to the dollar stores as you can find great deals on some foods and bottle water.

I have a propane generator. Propane is much easier to procure then gasoline is during an extended outage. Propane also stores much much longer...on the order of years versus weeks.

I'm in GA, right on the FL border, six miles in from the Atlantic ocean. We get brushed by hurricanes but get hit by very few.

We could actually use the rain to finish putting out the Honey Prairie Wildfire in the Okefenokee Swamp. It's been burning since late April.

Hope all is well with you.

We have friends in Charleston. He said he went to Wal-Mart and they were already completely out of bottled water. People are preparing, which is good, but don’t wait too long.

I never consider a propane generator as the stuff is kinda dangerous, but it cost allot less than gas and there are many outlets around here. Good call and I will head out tomorrow to find one thanks.

That’s an excellent idea, since emergency rooms are likely to be overcome during and after the storm.

Yeah... We’re watching this one. We’ll be fine, but masses of people down east are gonna take a beating if it’s as predicted. :-)

I live on Oak Island NC — southeastern part of the state, looks like we are ground 0. Its been a while since we had to deal with a major hurricane. Good Luck to everyone in Irene’s path, the most important thing is to be safe and move out of harms way.

We're watching this VERY closely in my line of work. The latest that we're being told is that the storm is taking a more eastwardly track...which is a very good thing!

I know I don't have to tell you this, but the way way to not get hit is to just not be there. :-)

We're keeping you all in our prayers. :-)

The latest models have it holding together as far as Philly coming right up I-95 up to New York and God forbid it comes over the Chesapeake Bay as the water is very warm right now.

Just throwing this out to some folks living on the east coast. Might want to get prepared since the earthquake didn't get you.
