Maybe you could make a science/survival lesson about it.
At the least, you can prepare now and avoid the panic and mad rush at the stores. And stock up on ammo.
Slowing also allows for weakening as it approaches land as much of the fuel, the warm water, is cut off from the land side.
The worst case scenario is it approaching islands where it can draw on heat and moisture from beyond them. Approaching the continent as it is, it will begin to weaken and unless it suddenly picks up a lot of forward speed, is not likely to make landfall at it’s peak category classification.
A lot of the Cat 4/5 ones that were aiming for NO weakened down to a 2 by landfall in the past.

I know. I live on the coast and have been through hurricanes before. I'll take a hurricane over a tornado.

Got my list all together and the Wife and I are heading out tomorrow to stock up on bread, bottled water, toilet paper and a generator. We have a hot plate and all my medical supplies, going to border up and black out my basement windows as well, don’t want fools to know I have power and supplies.

Well, the noise of the generator will be a giveaway, but not letting anyone see what you’ve got is a good idea.
I’m in NYS about the center of the state and right now it’s a crap shoot whether we’ll see anything from this or not. But considering the panic buying I see people who should know better in winter do when a snow storm is forecast, I can just imagine what the reaction would be if they thought a hurricane was going to hit us.
I’m always well stocked, but will be out shopping tomorrow anyway so will double check my supplies and list. It’s good to have fresh food on hand in any event. It’s just that much longer until you have to dip into your supplies.
I’ll be praying for your safety, as well as the others in the path of this storm. Do let us know how you make out.

One other Freeper suggested I get a propane based generator as they send to be very quiet and the propane is much easier to store in my outside shed.
I don’t personally know about the noise but I do understand that propane is much easier to store and much more stable than gasoline.
Let me know how that works out as well. It’ll be useful for future reference.
I’ve packed, loaded everything up and evacuated. I moved to Florida in 2006.
