I would think for “The Producers” alone he would have a star for live theater.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: For the experiment to be a success, all of the body parts must be enlarged.
Inga: His veins, his feet, his hands, his organs vould all have to be increased in size.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Exactly.
Inga: He vould have an enormous schwanzstucker.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: That goes without saying.
Inga: Voof.
Igor: He’s going to be very popular.

They’d go ape about “Bazing Saddles” today.

The only reason they didn't when it came out was because Richard Pryor was the co-write of it.

I reckon my favorites of his would be Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Life Stinks in that order. Favorite show he co-created and wrote? Get Smart.

Isn't the Walk Of Fame star something celebrities and their reps have to solicit and pay for? Brooks and his people might not have been interested before this. Certainly he deserves every honor Hollywood and now Broadway can give him.

I believe you have to buy your own star. Perhaps, Mel and his friends were too cheap until now. Perhaps, in today's economy, the price of a star has come down.

I had the pleasure of taking my daughter to the cast album signing of the score to “The Producers” at Tower Records in NYC. The signers were Brooks, Matthew Broderick and a very cranky Nathan Lane.

I honestly think I’ve never seen a happier person than Mel Brooks was arriving for that crowd.

Congrats Mel, you really deserve your star!

I once saw him interviewed and he was asked about fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He said,

“Oh, it was so loud! You couldn’t even read a newspaper for all the noise.”

What a happy man.
